PlaneShift

First impressions are solid. It's an old game that's been updated a bit and seems to have a passionate community keeping it alive. It's comfy, like a worn shirt or pants that feel just right and simply "fit". It's that, in large part. It retains plenty of the old and contains some of the new. Being an older game, it's not one that you'll be speed-running anytime soon; at least, not on your first go. It really does retain a lot of charm; and for me, for now, that's enough to give it more attention.

I started playing PlaneShift when it was developed using the Crystal Space 3D Engine back in 2007-2008 with version 0.4 called Steel Blue. Previously, I had been playing other MMORPGs and PlaneShift was free and back then was Open Source which made it interesting. I liked Role-Playing and PlaneShift was made for Role Play. The game is one of the most challenging that I have played, it doesn't hold your hand and it is very old school. Back then I really did not understand much of the game, the quests, crafting, magic, battling creatures, and did only a little traveling and exploration. However since the player base was big, I was always finding other players to roleplay with. Players were always so friendly and would help out with questions. I started playing more with the next release, 0.5 called Arcane Chrysalis, and I started to slowly understand the game better, and the game continued development until 2018 when the Crystal Space 3D Engine was unsupported and the decision was made by the developers to port the game to Unreal Engine. I am okay with games being esoteric, and this... is that. But, it's also just _boring._ Instead of a feeling of exploration, it evokes the frustration of being tugged along a linear path to figure out what a designer intended you to do next. Maybe there's more here, but I'm not interested enough to pursue it through the friction.

Full of bugs. inventory items sometimes delete themselves if you move them. starting stamina, 299, isnt enough to complete the tutorial quest for blacksmithing so that starter quest was softlocked by default. Softlocked in the tutorial when Xenak or whoever responded to my dialogue but failed to take me to hydlea, GM didnt respond to my petition within 30 minutes so my only options are to delete my character and make a new one hoping the tutorial doesnt bug again or go ♥♥♥♥ myself and delete this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ waste of time, dont play

the tutorial sucks, rework it straight to the city

I started at the tutorial, saw how primitive this game was, and thought "Nope. I'm done."
