Ragnarok Online

Nightmare installation and setup. I'm a casual MMO player that just likes character customization and the main questlines and exploring the world. This just kinda boring and is a testament to MMOs being the loneliest genre. Old, unoptimized, and doesn't use the dGPU, oh yeah, early 2000s gaming right here. keeps your computer DEAD SILENT. Its very niche, with a very small playerbase now and the game itself is brutally complicated. However there are many aspects which are lovingly handcrafted with care to a degree not really seen in MMOs. The artstyle is amazing. Early game is seemingly barren for players. Probably the most stifling aspect about this game is how, like most of its genre, this game has an issue with auction houses and tradebots genuinely screwing up the game's economy and how the economy is multi-layered against completionism. This is one of the worst examples of the tradebot issues in games and player server numbers are artificially inflated due to tradebots. There are LESS people playing this than you think. I've been playing iRO off and on for years. I started playing Ragnarok Online way back in 2005 on my first PC ever and was completely charmed by the atmosphere and music in iRO. I've since lost that account. lol The accounts I currently use have been ones that I've started in 2015 but I started a new character (knight class) on Steam. Sometimes I get this nostalgic itch to play Ragnarok again and I just go head first. I get so addicted it's hard to find a stopping point but its so relaxing to play after a long work day.

It was decently entertaining, apart from the nausiating camera angle and the awful translation and quest design. I think one of the missions I was playing got bugged and I was unable to progress. That is why I uninstalled. Impossible to play without a guide, and there aren't really any easy to follow ones I could find. Art styles nice, I guess. Lots of different sprites for the class types.

The server is always acting up. I can play other MMORPGs without any issues, but this game seems to have problems all the time. I’m basically just playing it for the nostalgia at this point. Honestly, I can’t really recommend it.
