Players praise Post Soviet Zombies for its solid, responsive gameplay, smooth performance, fun weapon mechanics, and atmospheric retro aesthetic that doesn't overstay its welcome as a short indie title. The main criticisms center on the game feeling repetitive and somewhat limited in length, with some suggestions for added features like multiplayer or map creation to extend replayability.
Post Soviet Zombies is an indie top-down action shooter developed and published by Ascension Studio that places players in a bleak, stylized vision of a post-Soviet city ravaged by infection and social collapse. Set in the early 1990s, the game leans heavily into atmosphere, drawing on decaying urban environments, industrial ruins, and the lingering remnants of a fallen system to create a setting that feels both grounded and unsettling. Rather than focusing on cinematic storytelling, the game communicates its world through tone, visuals, and moment-to-moment survival, allowing players to piece together the larger context through experience rather than exposition. Gameplay centers on fast, responsive top-down shooting that is immediately approachable but layered with enough variability to remain engaging over repeated runs. Players can choose from multiple characters, each offering different strengths and abilities that subtly alter how encounters unfold. Combat emphasizes mobility and situational awareness, forcing players to constantly reposition as enemies close in from all sides. This game runs on nearly anything with buttery smooth frames (apart from large hoards of zombies but for a majority of the game you'll be fine), it has fun gameplay thats a challenge but not ballbreaking, the weapons are just a joy to shoot (apart from maybe the pistol but even then its a 7/10), the zombies actually prove a threat, the dialog is a solid 11/10 overall i rate this game 9/10 its very fun and a pure blast from start to finish but it can get stale id recommend adding a map maker and maybe multiplayer but hey what do i know1 found this helpful

Can you escape the zombie-ravaged post-Soviet city of Zalupinsk? Post Soviet Zombies is a top-down shooter with pixel art graphics set in an early 1990s fictional post-Soviet city which is overrun by zombies. There're 2 modes: Campaign & Survival, and in both you select 1 of 4 playable characters: Militian (policeman), Fireman, Military (KGB), or Mercenary (looks more like a mobster), each with varying stats, their own passive ability/skill, & their own unique special ability (that recharges over time). Each character starts with an upgradable melee weapon; the Militian, Military & Mercenary all have a club, while the Fireman has an axe (that's noticeably better/more damaging to start). In Campaign mode, you fight your way thru 8 levels in an attempt to escape the zombie-ravaged city. The levels range from an apartment building, city streets, sewers, hospital, & military base. There are 3 different zombie types: normal zombies, zombie dogs (the fastest), & large zombies (the strongest). Some levels feature other humans such as unarmed civilians and armed police, military, & marauders, with marauders also acting as enemies. Throughout Campaign mode you find different…
