Left alone in a drowned world, a robot yearns to experience water firsthand. Having lost its teammates in a tsunami, its last wish is to reunite with them. This is a story about isolation, self-destruction, and the cost of desire.Struggle against environmental puzzles that bar you from achieving your dream. Face enemies and use them as your pavement for your journey; you have to do what it takes to survive.You are alone in your journey, but there will be guests who pass you by. They may offer advice and point you in your way, but in the end, they are just mere witness to your journey.To experience water firsthand, disarming your own safety systems - waterproof gear - is the only way to move forward. The more you lose, the farther you will go. Accept the anxiety and tension you feel from trading abilities and power for the robot to complete its journey.Sometimes, the environment reveals more than words. Water is a symbol present throughout Qiú; it is both a threat and a symbol. Through its various forms, you get to experience a story about longing, memory, and the beauty of destruction.

Qiú 泅 is a short and emotional puzzle platformer that caught me off guard with how much meaning it tries to put into such a simple journey. I play as a rescue robot left alone after a tsunami destroys the world around it and takes away its teammates. The robot wants to experience water for itself, even though its own safety systems are designed to keep water away from it. That gives the whole journey a strange feeling because I know from the start that the thing the robot wants is also the thing that can destroy it. The gameplay is built around side scrolling environmental puzzles, platforming and a few enemies that I have to deal with along the way. What makes the puzzles more interesting is the robot's safety equipment. I can disable parts of its waterproof protection to move forward, which means I am sometimes giving up abilities or protection in order to make progress. I like this idea because it connects the actual gameplay to the story instead of making the mechanics feel completely separate from what the robot is going through. The atmosphere is probably the strongest part for me. The drowned world is presented through hand drawn and stylised visuals, and the game uses wat…
Nope, nope, nope. Twist your fingers in a knot with this game because it only allows keyboard control and it grows irritating in the first few minutes. Glad this was a freebie.
