qubo

qubo is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is a very simple, low effort block placement puzzle game where you must align a 3D block level to match a specific plan or profile view... that's all there is to it, it's a simple premise and has been done (better) several times before by other mobile apps (although the developer claims this is "unique", it's unclear why they have been dishonest on that point). From a technical perspective, the mobile app doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the mobile app or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this mobile app will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC …

To fit in with the rest of my visual novel library, I'd have to give this game the merit of being the least sexual visual novel I have played. The cutscenes are short but inspire introspection and deep thinking. The gameplay, while confusing, is deeply entertaining. Since the beta I received, I have unlocked all secret endings, and I must say, the devs know their writing.
