About R-Type Delta: HD Boosted

A TIMELESS CLASSIC RETURNS

R-Type Delta is one of the finest shoot ‘em ups ever and took the gaming world by storm upon its release in 1998. Now, 27 years later, history repeats itself with R-Type Delta HD Boosted. With its tight level design, three selectable ships, powerful Delta Attacks, and the brilliant Force mechanic, this new edition proves that gaming classics of this caliber are truly timeless. If you played R-Type Delta back in the day, this is the perfect opportunity to return to its dark science fiction action. If you've never experienced this essential piece of gaming history before, now is the time.

SHARPER THAN EVER

R-Type Delta HD Boosted features high-resolution graphics that hone the polygonal edges of this PlayStation masterpiece until they’re sharp enough to cut glass. You simply haven’t experienced R-Type Delta until you've played it in high definition! Of course, the game also comes equipped with modern quality-of-life improvements.

ENVIRONMENTAL STORYTELLING

What has always made R-Type Delta so fantastic is its dark, eerie atmosphere. Shoot-'em-ups are not typically known for storytelling, but R-Type Delta HD Boosted excels with its simple, minimalist environmental storytelling, characteristic of the late ’90s. It’s a narrative that is as fascinating as it is unsettling, as adrenaline-pumping as it is deeply disturbing. And all this without a single word being spoken.

THE MEANING OF DELTA

The name “Delta” carries several meanings. Firstly, the Greek letter delta resembles a triangle, which coincidentally has as many sides as there are playable ships in the game. It is also the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, and R-Type Delta is the fourth game in the R-Type series. Additionally, the delta triangle is the simplest type of polygon, which is fitting since R-Type Delta was the first game in the series to use three-dimensional polygon graphics instead of two-dimensional sprites.

STORY

The year is 2163, and the badly damaged R9 Arrowhead fighter has just returned to Earth after its mission to destroy the Bydo Empire. The vessel is rescued by the battle-cruiser Croque-Monsieur and transported to an orbital space station. One year later, astronomers in Central Asia observe mysterious objects falling from the sky, and moments later, control is lost over the orbiting annihilation platform Moritz-G. This high-tech machine, capable of destroying the entire planet, descends over a city and levels it to the ground. Although its planet-destroying weapons have not yet been activated, its advanced defense systems make Moritz-G virtually impossible to approach. A desperate military operation is launched, and the prototype ship R9aII Delta is deployed to resolve the situation. Thus begins the epic battle that is R-Type Delta!

It does not work on Linux properly . On Steamdeck it works without any audio using proton GE / CachyOS versions . on Arch it works but I can't get past the first cut-scene.

following this, the forthcoming tactics 1*2 Cosmos collection and Dimensions 3rd Lightning; the only remaining R-Type games to yet get a modern port are the original Final, Super R-type, the Evolved content from Final 3 and Leo. this port does the job nicely at replicating the original PSX release save for the hic-ups at launch...would i say get this over obtaining the original? that depends on how deep your pockets are

Excellent schmup. Excellent port, as well. Props to the developer/publisher for opting to make a port vs emulation. As a result, the game is so responsive and controls great.

it's so obviously a great game and to a Casual like me a very solid effort to remaster such a cool, important shmup and bring it to PC and modern systems. there are a few things that are a little basic in presentation and options, but so far as I can tell it's a must-have for fans of the genre. being remade to remove slowdown is awesome, making it to me the definitive version to experience. so it's a great effort for a truly great game every shmup fan SHOULD play, but to not even include even a barebones CRT filter is simply too much for me. I've gotta use this vote as my measely way to protest this lack of care about such a small thing that at least to me is so important. the game only looks the way it does because the designers knew it'd all be seen through CRT scanlines. that was all that available - even to them, I bet - when it came out. small thing but a critical one. so easy to implement, too. very frustrating, especially when it's otherwise so GOOD. I do recommend it. I do. but I'm using this vote as protest. I'll change if ever they add one, I do doubt they will. if they didn't think of it while making it, why would they think of it now??

very glad i bought this game! if it were a barebones 30 fps port - it wouldnt have been worth it but it seems like actual care was put into this port- the only issue is having to press escape to quit instead of just the B button and prompt me to quit or have an exit game setting but its hardly an issue when everything else looks, sounds, and runs so well!

I voted for this in the Steam Awards for the Best Game I Suck At. But it is so much fun. If you like horizontal shmups you need to give it a try. Cool visuals. Cool weapons. Cool music. It's got that retro look because it is a retro game remade for the current graphical interfaces. But you can play it in the original low def graphics if you so choose. It has lasers, but it's not lazy.
