There's an alternate reality where id made Prodeus as their return to DOOM in 2016. It's a classic DOOM-clone that's modernised in the best ways while keeping the fast-paced hyperviolence, wallhumping and key-seeking intact. It's no frills, kind of feels like it's missing that one extra thing that would really put it on the map, but everything that is there is polished to a mirror sheen. My only real gripe with Prodeus is that death doesn't feel very good, not because dying itself feels bad but because it has an odd checkpoint system. When you die, you respawn at the closest checkpoint but time doesn't reset to when you hit that checkpoint, meaning that if you die mid-encounter, you respawn mid-encounter. This results in there being effectively no punishment for death and more importantly, no feeling of really learning and overcoming an encounter, if you die you just kind of move a couple of feet back and have full health again. The game doesn't deserve this as a knock against it, but I'll mention it because it definitely impacted my experience. I was really motivated to play through Prodeus when I was looking for a shooter to play in my library and saw the Elder Veil DLC annou…

Great level design.
Great game with fantastic visal style, good music, nice paceing and overall a very nice expierence. I brought it for 12€ and got my monies worth, it is really, really fun. Difficutly is pleasant on medium, the levels are 15-25 minutes and it is simply a good buy. While I like the visuals more than in WH40K: Boltgun, Boltgun is the overall better game imo. However: Prodeus is a fantastic boomer shooter and should be played by everyone who liked DooM, Quake and the rest of the Old Guard of games from that early to mid 90s era. Really, really enjoyed it.
