To preface, I'm a player on the heroic servers, where pay for progress exists, but not as prominent as interactive. In my opinion, the game is oddly satisfying for those that likes to grind and see steady account progression. However, after having 5900 hours player at the time of writing this, I would strongly dissuade new players to play both the modern and classic versions of the game due to the predatory monetisation strategies used by Nexon. To give an example, this game realistically costs $70 USD and comes with a monthly subscription of $10 due to the requirement of a petite luna pet (vac pet), allowing you to loot while training with a lot less active effort as opposed to the pets that can be obtained for free. Not to mention depending on the class you pick, you may not be able to transfer this $70 purchase to your other characters should you get bored of it. This is a recurring theme in general, where they will create a problem and sell you the solution labelled as "quality of life". MapleStory used to be such a great game, but at this point it feels like it has turned into nothing more than a huge cash grab. It really feels like the developers don’t listen to or care about what the players actually want, and the new Classic release is a perfect example of that. I was actually considering getting back into MapleStory specifically for Classic, but I’m honestly glad I didn’t buy the Founder’s Pack. Spending $6-$80 just to get two weeks of early access is absolutely ridiculous. That’s a lot of money for what essentially amounts to a head start, especially when the game itself should be about bringing players back and rebuilding that old-school experience. I would have happily supported Classic if it felt like the developers were genuinely listening to the community. Instead, the Founder’s Pack just feels like another way to monetize nostalgia. Huge waste of money, and I’m glad I saved mine.
