Simple yet challenging concept with bad controls. Maybe you grabbed a block or maybe not, no way of knowing until you move.

Raining Blocks was an attempt at making a hybrid Sokoban/Tetris game in Java (don't laugh, it's true). Gameplay, if the game worked, would have consisted of dodging falling blocks and pulling/pushing them around to form a Tetris like match to delete the blocks and give yourself a little more room to keep going. It's not a bad concept for a game... if it's the 1990's still, but unfortunately it's 2022. The very idea someone would seriously try to write a PC game in Java is most certainly good for a chuckle, but unfortunately it seems the poor choice of game engine is matched with poor implementation quality. The game is broken and just launches into a black screen with a mouse pointer. Because this is broken, and because it's written in Java (seriously!!!), it's impossible to recommend, no matter what the price is.

Raining blocks is a very simple arcade game built around a pretty clever idea. Blocks keep falling from above and I have to avoid them while also pushing and pulling them around to give myself more room. It is the kind of game I can understand almost immediately, but there is a little more going on once I start trying to survive for longer. I like that it is designed around short sessions because I can jump in, play for a few minutes and try to beat my previous result without having to deal with a long campaign or complicated progression. The main gameplay is surprisingly tense for something this basic. The blocks keep building up and I have to think about where I am moving them instead of simply running away. If I push something into a bad position, I can make the next few seconds much harder for myself. That gives the game a small puzzle element alongside the survival challenge. I also like that there are three difficulty levels, because the basic idea works when I want something relaxed but becomes much more demanding when I want to test how long I can actually last. Плюсы: яркая графика, лаконичный геймплей, доступность для новичков. Однако уровни быстро наскучивают, а сложность резко возрастает без постепенного обучения. Подходит для коротких сессий, но не держит внимание долго. В целом — приятный досуг, но не шедевр.
