Disclaimer: I'm aware the game is short and from a small studio. Won't use video this time or shots to avoid spoiler.
THIS MIGHT NOT GOING TO WORK IF YOU'RE ABOVE 25
Sometimes I think when certain luckies finally gets the chance to produce a game, its used as a escape goat for something else. Though its more honest than the big studios---but after they consume classic media, I guess the end result is the remains of that; these type of games. (Not saying it is, but might). I often say in reviews that this kinda of thing makes gaming looking like a creative dump, rather than a source of such.
More cons than pros makes Cy a dull gurl
1- There is no continue/checkpoint if you leave. If you can't continue by any chance, its back from zero all over again. Same for language choice menu, won't save last pick. Example; I had a bug where a door closes, and a thing was supposed to vanish. The door never opened again and I had to restart. 2- Instability with graphics might force rebooting. Rather than fixing it, they left notes like "it might crash" if you pick a language for example. Example; During gameplay the game started to stutter for no…

P. S. If you have difficulties in the walktrough, this guide will be very useful: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3561496240
Came, saw a ghost, and bounced
[REC] Desolation isn’t a direct sequel to Paroxysm – it’s a standalone story, but it’s twice as bad and half as long as the previous part of the series, god forgive me. You play as Ethan Carter, investigating the ruins of a mansion abandoned back in the mid-20th century, supposedly cursed, so there are supernatural forces howling around; actually, the whole story is just told through five notes scattered across the game. First-person gameplay through a camera view: you walk through corridors, mostly at night, making everything black and white and adding zero atmosphere. There’s one puzzle, done sloppily and predictably easy, one monster chase at the end – and that’s it, game over. It takes up over 10 GB for such a short game. Basically, it’s the same crap as the previous game, avoid it and don’t get tricked by the high rating.
Verdict:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612049014 P. - Atmosphere is very nice and environment too. not very scary if you play lot of horror. - Camera filter looks very nice and nice graphics too. - Story is basic/generic nothing special. - Depends on player but i played this through in 30 minutes and not use any guide etc.. and got all achievements too so not long game depends on player but i got it discounted price so in my opinion worth the money. - But i enjoyed it mostly nice little horror experience, maybe 6/10 on this nothing special but nice to play through.

I love to support indie game devs especially in the horror genre but this was honestly one of the worst indie games I have ever played. I don't think its worth spending $4 on to try. The game is only about 25 minutes long and the last 95% you will spend in a grainy black and white view with limited fov. The game doesn't provide much direction at all and you can end up wandering around searching the parameters over and over to figure out where to walk to next. The story wasn't that good either. This game felt like like a 100% effort to make a quick asset flip. The Unsettling Discovery achievement wouldn't poop for me either and I found and read all 5 pieces of paper/notes for it. Buy this game at your own risk, beat it in 25 minutes then request a refund because you wont ever want to play it again. You can watch my play through here https://youtu.be/mRfm5BGiezs

I don't have many arguments to consider giving it a positive review. And my opininon is not based on the game length, small scope or the visible low budget. It is rather the result of experiencing a project which is the effect of visible minimalism. The idea behind it is quite cool and I could very well see it done more solidly. However, there are two layers here, the story and the gameplay, which are not coordinated with one another. While walking SLOWLY around the ruined building we encounter the most cliché, cheap types of scares you could possibly think of. None of them is consequently tied to the final encounter. While there are many translation options, I suppose most of them are done by AI or automatic translator, because its quality is really poor. On top of it all, the performance is horrible. For such a small project it is straight up baffling that you would require the newest RTX 4xxx or 5xxx in order for it to run smoothly. This is the final argument for a thesis, that being able to generate a pleasing to the eye scenery in an engine like UE5 shouldn't be the sole reason for creating a whole game project around it. It requires a bit more of planning ahead. Let's…
