✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the Reigns franchise's signature swipe-based decision mechanics applied to China's Three Kingdoms setting, with some finding it a fun and fresh entry in the series. However, common complaints include bugs, a confusing sense of agency where choices don't feel impactful, and a departure from the straightforward experience of earlier Reigns games that may disappoint returning fans.

Kingdom of PirateSoftware (Blizz Army), Kingdom of Asmongold (Stinky) and Kingdom of Charlie (Penquin County) are at war. You are Johnny Cebula. Your mission? Go back in time and change the course of humanity so it'll never create Marvel or DC Comics. It's another Reign title. Short, but fun and this time a little bit buggy. 6/10.

Reigns: Three Kingdoms, developed by Nerial and published by Devolver Digital, is the latest evolution of the long-running Reigns franchise, known for its swipe-based decision-making system. This time, the series leaves behind the medieval thrones and futuristic empires of previous entries and immerses itself in the dramatic political and military turbulence of ancient China’s Three Kingdoms era. Drawing from both history and the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the game combines familiar Reigns mechanics with new layers of strategy, narrative complexity, and even turn-based card combat, creating a hybrid experience that manages to feel both fresh and familiar. The foundation of the game is still based on the signature swipe mechanic: you’re constantly making binary decisions, left or right, that impact several resource meters—political support, military strength, economy, and the loyalty of your people. If any of these fall too low or swing too high, your reign ends. What’s different this time is the more elaborate structure built around that core. You begin as a low-ranking character and slowly gain influence through calculated political choices, strategic marriages,…

I randomly played this on Netflix a couple of years ago. When it disappeared I had to buy it for myself, but couldn't find a way to play this game on my mac or iphone. Still determined to play it again, i found an old windows 10 tablet from college (c. 2017?) that had a broken screen, ordered a keyboard/mouse combo, and turned off the touch feature on the tablet in order to play this game. And yeah I definitely think all that was worth it. This old tablet runs it, but not other, newer games from steam so I think I got lucky.

Just as good as the original reigns game

I made the decision to buy this game because i adore the Reigns games. I will say I haven't played the Beyond, or GOT ones before, so this was my first step out of the typical stories. If you are going into it expecting an experience similar to that of the other games this isn't it (maybe I'll change my mind/review on that one day). Part of the issue for me was feeling like i needed to be everyone and everywhere at once. But, also, those choices would't always feel like they translated into the future I was supposedly creating. I think others mention this ass well. I'll probably still play it to waste time but I can't really recommend it especially to people who have already played the other games. I had higher hopes for this setting, but it is still cool to see in the Reigns style.
