About Remanence

Remanence is a first-person souls-like that rewards players for mastering the sword combat mechanics. In the remains of a world where technology has progressed to the level of seeming magical, players take the role of a survivor of the apocalypse who aims to rise against the robotic cult that has destroyed the world using nanomachines. Armed with only a sword and little remaining nanomachine power, players must master sword combat and seek revenge on the cybernetic overlord. In their path is an army of machines with a variety of attacks. Some war machines are fast and nimble while others are slow but hit hard. It is up to the player to figure out the best approach to dispatch their opponent.
  • A variety of challenging enemies with adaptive and versatile move sets
  • A strange apocalyptic world to venture through
  • Multiple intense boss fights to master and defeat
  • Tight combat featuring rewarding parrying and repose

There aren't that many first-person souls games so i was excited about this, but was let down by the combat being quite janky. Visually it is impressive and i can tell they put great deal of effort into making things look nice. Had to stop at the big ground slam boss. Would i recommend this? Sure, if you want first-person souls game and don't mind janky combat. Personally i would give this neutral if i could, but let's throw in positive for the effort.

It really pains me to give this a negative review but I have to. It makes my soul hurt and I battled myself before writing this review because the art style is just awesome and as a programmer solo game developer myself, I admire artists like this and ngl nothing else is "bad" it's just controls are too clunky and it cannot afford to be clunky in a souls-like. A player needs to be able to immediately parry right after an attack instead of waiting for slow attack animation to finish. 3rd boss clapped me 15 times in a row and that's when I decided to quit. It simply killed the entire joy for me. However, if steam had neutral reviews I would give it because it is obvious there's love and passion put in this project and as I mentioned before it truly hurts my soul having to give a negative review. Still though, great job guys and good luck in your careers. I still recommend the game to people with insane reflexes, unlike me I guess lol. Edit: Oh also, please work on optimization a bit more. I have a 16 GB chinese special crafted 3080 Ti playing on 2k with ultra settings. I shouldn't be struggling with 45ish FPS when I can pull same fps with path traced cyberpunk just saying. Have a go…

I began with a preponderance on dealing with the fishing; my adjacency to the project had informed me that such a thing was added in the final hour, and I was fascinated by the extent of my appreciation for this feature once I saw it for myself. There were a number of instances where a cutscene was initiated somewhat unnecessarily, such as the pan up toward the skyscrapers in the outdoor arena. There's an excuse for the Taurus Demon, making sure he jumps away from the upper platforms, but he does get stuck after I die and the cutscene no longer triggers; I'm confused why he doesn't just get activated once I enter the region more completely. Near the second save station as well as for the "infected" pair of stations in the boss arena, I felt an imbalance between their player function and the diegetic function, where it felt to be used as more of a cool object rather than an implied construction of intervals. Imagine, if you will, a telephone pole built a single foot away from another telephone pole; it causes me to ask angry questions instead of curious ones. I was sure that the fishing was somewhere immediately before the boss, but my surveillance turned up nothing. But there's alw…

The game is fun and challenging. It's a neat little 10-15 minute experience. It doesn't run the greatest until you lower video settings in the menu.
