The atmosphere is interesting, but the game does a very poor job of explaining how to play. Enemies kill you extremely easily, and it’s often unclear what you did wrong or how you were supposed to avoid death. Difficulty feels less like a deliberate challenge and more like confusion caused by unclear mechanics and lack of guidance. Most of my time was spent dying and retrying rather than actually learning or enjoying the game. This could have been a solid short experience with better tutorials or clearer visual cues, but as it is, it’s more frustrating than fun.2 found this helpful
first allow me to say that the dev was right, more people will see his game and renounced absolutely *is* a wonderfully fun game that deserves recognition as well as respect for the effort put out by a single dev into their hand-drawn cartoonish extraction shooter rougelite. indeed, renounced is shaping up to and already should be held alongside the peers in its genre for how it distills and makes fluid the process of preparation to time to action. the game starts you in a bedroom, and from there you can go to one of two procedurally generated zones to go find loot and figure out how to extract, the game does not give you much direction in this way; which i mostly do like and in fact love in these types of games however in renounced it is hampered a bit by the intersection of the games simplified controls to more clunky mechanics that dont always work the they are supposed to. what i mean by this is that sometimes they straight up dont respond to your input when youre trying to move to do things, and sometimes require hyper precise interaction that causes you to accidentally shoot your gun or waste resources when you arent meaning. an example of wasting resources when you dont me…1 found this helpful
