bad cheap game, bought the wrong rental store game. this one sucks

10/13 Update: I don't know what happened but the game is now insanely unoptimized. even with graphics set to low, my PC fan kicks into overdrive as soon as the game loads. the game looks like a PS1 title so idk why it requires so much effort from the PC. i can run Baldur's Gate III with less stress. do not recommend in it's current state, but: its fun, very simple and relaxing. UNFORTUNATELY... your movies randomly disappear. i own over 100 tapes in my store, but maybe 30 will show up. the rest are not rentals, they're not waiting to be cleaned, they're not in the return box or the (goofy and unexplained) storage box (where the movies will also show up for some reason). so, fun game, but it deserves a sideways thumb, not up or down. around day 9 (for me) the customers freeze and no new ones will come in, so you have to restart a new game and have the same thing happen again. developer seems to be pretty active with replies and updates, hopefully we get bug fixes before content.

Rental Store Simulator has a genuinely great concept: running a classic movie rental shop where customers rent films, return them, and you handle the full loop—rewinding tapes, cleaning them, shelving inventory, and keeping the business running. It taps into a nostalgic idea that feels surprisingly fresh in the simulator space. That said, the game is oddly graphically demanding. My frame rate fluctuated a lot during normal play, which feels strange given the scope of the environment. It doesn’t break the experience, but it’s noticeable enough to be distracting at times. The tutorial is currently the biggest issue. It’s outright wrong in multiple places—prompting keys like Z for tools when it’s actually TAB, or saying TAB opens the inventory when it’s really I. This causes unnecessary confusion early on and needs to be corrected as soon as possible. On the positive side, the sound design is extremely satisfying. XP popups, scanning discs, and the cash register all have weight and feedback that make basic tasks enjoyable. Very fun game, super chilled, relaxing, and of course nostalgic too. Worth a play!

A surprisingly cozy loop of buy–rent–restock that scratches the management sim itch without getting bogged down in meaningless drudgery. You start with a bare-bones shop and a small selection of movies to rent out, and steadily unlock inventory, upgrades and staff. The UI is clean and customer traffic keeps you engaged with just enough management to be satisfying. If you enjoy chill tycoon vibes with steady growth, this was an easy recommend, especially with some of the latest updates.
