Rise of Fox Hero

Who is this game for? That is the question I found myself asking repeatedly when I was playing this game. It was both too easy but full of nonsense obstacles that were used way too often with some of the worst timing I have ever experienced in a platformer. The platforms that move when the fox jumps was overused an embarrassingly number of times. The timing of most of the platforms and obstacles were both too fast at times but also too slow. The timing needed to be tweaked so badly. There was no joy when playing this game. I had no desire to replay levels to find collectables I missed. I wanted it to be over. The game had good ideas but the best ideas were used once maybe twice while the worst obstacles were used way too often. The game needed thumbing for the levels instead dropping random hazards without any clear thought to their order or structure. I wasn't expecting a story or goal beyond finishing all 32 levels but it would have been nice to know why I was fighting and what I was fighting for. One minor thing that still bothers me is why the Fox character has the mask covering half his face in the cover art but not in the game.

This is a fun and charming little platformer. Pretty easy overall but I did enjoy it and a quick play too. Will be looking out for the next game.

The game was a lot of fun. Colorful and pretty. Great movement and camera control. As some other reviewer mentioned, it does get a bit repeditive with the same enviroments and enemies, but collecting all the coins and apples and barrels was enjoyable. The level design was great. I've completed the game but not collected everything yet. I don't think there's an achive for it though.

This is a casual game that presents and plays like a school project. Not much substance here. Lack of polish is evident. For example: • There are only three basic enemies, not counting the four "bosses." They are the same in "Chapter 1" as they are in "Chapter 4." • All basic enemies make the same one or two grunt sound effects. It's not even a quality sound—I could make a better one in 30 minutes using Audacity and a webcam mic. • Why do some pitcher plants shoot fireballs slowly, while others shoot rapidly? There are no visual or contextual indicators of what to expect or why. • "Bosses" are so braindead basic, and there is very little to set them apart from the rest of the gameplay. They don't have much going on in terms of animation, phases, music, etc. • Swinging the sword has no sense of weight or impact. Sword hitbox is unpredictable at times. • When enemies are defeated, they go *poof* with no variation. Even a little knockback bounce would have been worlds better than everything going *poof*. Think about the difference between goombas and koopa troopas when they are defeated...it's intuitive and memorable. There is no such distinction here. • It's clear no one thoug…

I had a decently fun time playing this game. It's a hidden gem, for sure. However, it does get a bit repetitive feeling at times. It's, also, not very challenging. Overall, I liked it enough.
