Rogue Islands

I love this game. If you enjoy jumping into a game world where you have very little idea of what's going on, and must learn as you go, I highly recommend giving Rogue Islands a try. The barrage of information at the start in lieu of a tutorial felt a little overwhelming, but it didn't end up being a problem for me. Like most roguelikes, Rogue Islands is set up for you to learn the game by failing over and over until you get the hang of it, so I figured it out as I went, and I had a blast doing it. I played this with an Xbox controller, and I really liked how the controls were mapped. It felt very intuitive and was very quick to get used to. The inventory and spell menus don't pause the game, but they do slow down time significantly while open, so swapping spells and using items is one of many skills you must hone, and I really enjoyed that. It led to some very fun intense moments during fights. I would have preferred if there was a way to save in the middle of an island and return later, rather than having to complete and leave an island to save progress in a run. But, it was never the end of the world when I had to redo the progress on an island. Each island took me between half…

Is there any way to make it *not* permadeath? Or at least have goodies that persist through playthroughs? Why is there a need for the hunger system? It detracts from everything else. Same question for the day/night situation. I it's distracting and unnecessary. Otherwise, this game is engaging and fun. I recommend it.
