Roze Blud

I was gifted a copy of roze blud from a friend because he and his crew were organizing a small tourny with a pool of players, and he knew that I was into top-down shooters like Smash-TV and EnterTheGungeon. So I watched the trailer on steam loved the dystopian 80's science fiction art style (sorta Atari's Area-51 arcade shooter meets John Carpenter's Escape from new york kinda thing), so I went for it. The gameplay was great and def a blend of different genre's. It reminds me of RTS games where you have to micro different units into different positions and also all the top-down shooters I've previously mentioned. The best moments of gameplay are def when you find yourself actively switching between multiple characters and coordinating some attack or move on your opponent. More often than not tho, when you're first starting out or if you're playing against people who are also new to the game, folks just move one character around. This, if you're a try-hard like me, doesn't get you a lot of mileage of fun tho and also doesn't get you wins; so you'll find yourself adapting quickly. I was gifted this game to stream it and share some pre-launch criticisms, but I came away feeling like there was very little to criticize. If you're looking for a fun game to play on the couch with the homies, this game is simple, easy to pick up and to understand, but with a ton of competitive depth and psychological play to sink your teeth into. The netplay is also great! If you're looking for a rich single-player experience, as of right now, this isn't the game for you; there's no campaign, no story mode, no single-player stages and not even any bots to practice with if you can't find somebody to play with you. On the other hand, there's a growing Discord server of players to matchmake with, and the netcode is excellent. Because the gameplay resolves so tightly around strategy, mindgames, deception, and guerilla warfare, it wouldn't be nearly as fun against bots anyway. You can tell from one look at the presentation that Roze Blud is a labor of love from its tiny team of a few friends, and you can tell from how the game feels and how it's balanced that the lead developer had a clear vision for what they wanted from the game design. While a friend gifted me a copy of this game, I have played much of it offline. If you're looking for a fun game that's easy to understand but still rewards strategy, positioning, aim and reaction then I highly recommend. I love the fact that the game supports dual-monitor offline play so you can fight a friend in-person and talk smack without the dreaded screen-looking (unless you're sitting in front of a mirror or something). I also love the digitized live-action sprites. The characters, music and voice acting all ooze character. If you got some friends to play with or you want to try something new at an offline-gathering, I definitely recommend.
