Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure

This is a first person puzzle game. Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure is actually a pseudo sequel of a better regarded game, called just Safecracker. The plot is that you are hired by a family of a rich man who recently died to open all the safes inside his mansion. The game features a total of 35 safes/locked puzzles. There's no tutorials nor guiding, you just explore the couple of unlocked initial rooms to fiddle with the few safes or mechanisms that are available. This is a linear game, with typical inventory from adventure games that will allow you to open locked doors and get access to more rooms and floors in the mansion. Most puzzles are fair with the game lasting a couple of hours. There's just one specific puzzle near the start that takes a ton of time to solve, it's one of those jigsaws where you rotate 4 pieces of the puzzle clockwise at the same time. Even knowing the exact solution, is still a chore to solve. Does not play well on Newr gaming pc

I bought this who knows how many years ago, I was probably still on Windows XP or Windows 7 at the time. Either way, I never ran into any issues running the game then or now, when I finally got around to actually playing through it to the end. Perhaps I was merely lucky. What I can tell is that Safecracker is a rather barebones puzzle game where any and all dialogue is coming from the safe-cracking protagonist here to find the late Duncan Adams' missing will and testament. It is from an era where the games frequently leave you completely in the dark, and if there's a clue somewhere you have to keep your eyes peeled in order to find them. It could be a letter on a sofa arm, it could be something the player character says - and they [i]won't[/i] repeat it - during the middle of a puzzle. The puzzles will frequently fall into two categories: relatively simple or otherwise straightforward, and absurdly obtuse where you'll either beat your head against the wall until you look it up or have a miraculous serendipity moment of revelation at something you overlooked. It's fine, but it doesn't run easily and other games have done it better since. There's nothing unique here that you can't get in a successor.
