About Saint Kotar

The Ritual DLC

Saint Kotar: The Ritual is a free DLC that introduces new intriguing characters, new puzzles, and Viktoria as a new playable character. With two hours of gameplay time, The Ritual reveals many secrets from the obscure past and gives answers to inexplicable events from the storyline in the main game.

Viktoria is the sister of Benedek and wife of Nikolay, the two playable characters in the main game. You can now finally delve into her side of the story and experience what happened the night before the start of the main game. Follow a woman battling her own demons in this brand-new storyline as she tries to get redemption by finding out what happened to her missing father.

Prepare to return to Sveti Kotar in Saint Kotar: The Ritual – a free DLC available to all owners of the main game.

Uncover the mysteries of Sveti Kotar

In Saint Kotar, a story-and-choice driven psychological horror detective game, you play as Benedek and Nikolay – two troubled godly men in search for their missing relative in an ancient God-devoted town called Sveti Kotar. Here, an unknown presence preys upon the weak and sways on devil worship and witchcraft. Evidence points to your missing relative being involved in the grisly murders and the occult, but what is the truth? Are you also to blame for what happened?

Will you put the pieces together and unravel the truth behind the town’s centuries-old horrid presence? Or is madness going to be your fate?

Why Saint Kotar will terrify you:

  • Solve the mystery behind your relative's involvement with the town's bizarre and morbid rituals
  • Switch between two realities to get to the bottom of the town’s horrifying secrets
  • Take caution as your choices will affect both story and gameplay
  • Discover hidden locations and complete side tasks to uncover the whole story

✦ AI summary

Saint Kotar successfully creates an unsettling atmosphere with retro early-2000s point-and-click aesthetics and an intriguing dual-protagonist mystery that concludes with satisfying resolution, but the experience is held back by slow pacing, an annoying protagonist, mediocre voice acting, and a disjointed story that fails to connect its elements into something truly compelling. Players appreciate the atmospheric world-building and puzzle design, yet find themselves struggling to connect with the unlikeable characters and occasionally clumsy narrative execution.

tl;dr - A really weird game with nostalgia visuals that trigger all the best stuff from early 2000's with mediocre voice acting and a really annoying protagonist you'll have issues connecting with. Gruesome story that makes sense, but still somehow still fails to connect everything into a great experience. Yes - if you like gory, no "happy ending" stories and if you can muster Benedek's VA and him squeaming at most things. No - if you want a captivating story and memorable characters (it is a gruesome/gory game) ========= The graphics are what you could simply describe as classic early-to-mid 2000s point-and-click adventure style: prerendered backgrounds with 3D character models. There are a lot of locations to visit around the town of Sveti Kotar, and the atmosphere is really solid. Character animations are stiff and janky, but honestly, I quite liked them. They reminded me of adventure games from around 20 years ago and added to the overall feel. Voice acting is mediocre at best. I’m from Croatia, and hearing heavy accents feels both wrong and fitting at the same time, since you’d expect locals to speak somewhat “broken” English. The problem is that some characte…

Saint Kotar's logo - the cross, the martyr, and the bracket. all painted in white with cracks in the foundation - is brilliant symbolic foreshadowing. The-Mark Entertainment has conjured a silent, creepy world with foggy landscapes and a great dual protagonist system that juxtaposes a devout priest's struggle with the mental decline of his companion. Voice acting may be a little over-dramatic, and while running fifteen seconds across a screen without a double click to teleport function slows the pace too much, the enduring mystery comes to a satisfying conclusion (or two). This game is a bit clumsy, feels like it needed a bit of a rewrite as the story feels clumsy at a few point and like they weren't sure what to do. With that said it is overall an enjoyable experience, with decent puzzles, amazing atmosphere and visuals although with pretty unlikeable characters. Overall its alright.
