[i]Samurai of Hyuga Book 2[/i] is a text-based, choose-your-own-adventure developed and published by Hosted Games. As the name states, it is the second book in the [i]Samurai of Hyuga[/i] series, so it's highly recommended to have played the first book before delving into this second book (or this review, for that matter). You take on the role of a ronin, the wandering samurai character that you created from the first book. (However, you can choose to have a premade character as well if you don't have any saved game files from the first book.) The story starts off from the cliffhanger from book one in which your character [spoiler]has to find a way to save their charge/master from being killed by their ex-lover/ex-fellow samurai[/spoiler]. After those events play out, then your character and fellow party members travel to a new town to follow up on the [spoiler]quest given by the emperor, which involves finding another demon[/spoiler]. Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 557: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ (7/10) The best way I would describe [i]Samurai of Hyuga Book 2[/i] is a fun, hot mess. It is by no means a bad book. Not at all! It's the literal definition of a gleeful, chaotic romp through the woods that doesn't put on any airs. For better or for worse, this [i]is[/i] the author's little playground—and you're just in for the ride. That sounds a bit negative, but it's true. Devon Connell's prose is wonderfully descriptive, and the plot is just beginning to heat up. However, Book 2 comes with a newfound linearity, which may be a dealbreaker to same players. Mundane pleasures—desserts, wine, customs—are broken down slowly and almost pedagogically, as if the narrator is teaching both the protagonist and the reader how to partake in a foreign culture rather than merely observe it. Connell's prose works so well because it mirrors the emotional state of the main character. Illustrious Shogi Champion of Hyuga is the second god forsaken book in this honestly sad series... It being sad because I have already wasted so much precious time and grown so accustomed to probably the best supporting cast, that I can no longer look upon other COG games. In all honesty this is THE diamond in the rough that you finally find after scouring throughout the entire first book... it only gets rougher from here.

This is a really fun series that focuses a lot on relationships and character development along with a steady plot. The choices mostly focus on the type of personality you want to maintain interspersed with lasting decisions that follow through the series. I would highly recommend to any fans of IF.

This is just filler. Honestly, im almost impressed that you could make a filler game in a choice game series. The MC is somewhat out of comission for most of the book, there are weird slice of life elements that do not fit the theme and the buildup towards a climax goes nowhere wich leads to problems in the next book. You cant even say that there is a railroading problem here like in the entries after this, because nothing really goes anywhere. And no, it doesnt help at all that the not-climax gets revisited and expanded in the fifth book, because thats way to late to save anything.
