About Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves

✦ AI summary

Set traps and use cunning tactics to survive nightly werewolf attacks in this action-strategy hybrid where outwitting supernatural enemies matters more than raw combat strength. Inspired by Canadian folklore and co-written by bestselling author Bryan Perro, you'll master an innovative Fear Factor system, customize your character with RPG skills, and fight for your sister's survival across a richly detailed 19th century Canada filled with myth and legend.

Combining action and strategy in a unique way, Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves transports you into an epic folktale co-written with best-selling Canadian author Bryan Perro (Amos Daragon, Wariwulf), in which two feuding brothers will have to put aside their differences to save their sister, who is pursued by the Devil himself!

This time however, sheer brute strength won't be enough to save the day as your enemies are way stronger than you are. Only your wits and the ability to combine ingenious traps to setup deadly ambushes will give you a chance to see the sun rise again on your frozen piece of forest...

Key Features

  • Plan your strategy! – Take advantage of the calm during the day to fill your forest with all kinds of traps that are as inventive as they are deadly.
  • Hunt your enemies! – When night falls, use the wind and lure the diabolic beasts into your traps using bait... But watch out! You have to be on constant guard to make sure you don't become the prey of the beasts you are tracking!
  • Fight heroically! – If some of the beasts get past your traps, that's when it gets bloody! First you can shoot them with your trusty musket and then eliminate the ones that survive by slaughtering them with your axe! Action and carnage guaranteed!
  • Use fear to your advantage! – All the mechanics of the game revolve around the innovative concept of Fear Factor, which makes your ability to intimidate your enemy your best weapon. For example, use fire to frighten the wolves and scatter their packs.
  • Customize your character! – Choose one of the two O'Carroll brothers and develop your character using a skill system based on role-playing games (RPGs), making your hero as unique as he is powerful!
  • Discover a rich universe! – Immerse yourself in 19th century Canada where legends meet History in a world filled with lore and wonders. Buy historical weapons and items, fight mythical beasts and uncover the truth about werewolves...

As much as I enjoyed the 1st and second tutorial. upon the 3rd tutotial the game ai broke it's own rules. Meanwhile having 9 wolves vs me. The shotgun can only do 1 shot before you have to spam click just to reload 1 ammo while being attacked. The character stamina is rather bad. It's so bad it would give legend of skyward sword players war flash backs of the stamina wheel. If you try to play this like a tower defense game with combat you will be punished for it. Ignoring the rather bad game-play which treats the player as if you leveled up enough which you arn't you only got 1 skill point before, the game becomes cheap in the 3rd tutorial which doesn't feel like it was beta tested to ensure it was crafted well while teaching the player on what to do . As much as I wanted to like this game. I have to say between the bad mechanics that should have been utterly dropped during the game conception and cheap ai that will group attack you while your stamina is recharging. As much as I like werewolves this is a hard pass on my end.

This isn't my type of game. Nothing wrong with it, but it could control a bit better. The setting and ambience are excellent, but just not the best controls for this kind of game. I recommend Orcs Must Die if you want better playability.

Great game, very well made. Would like to have to more game modes. Having to run back and forth (or zipline) just to deal with a couple of mobs or will-o-wisps made it feel more like a micro-management tower defense game which took away from raw action and trap defense based survival atmosphere it creates but it's more like a bad shoe than than rock in your boot in that it's there but easily forgettable. :P

Nice and relaxing tower defense style game I've never seen before. I would call it a hidden gem.
