About Scarlet Sails

Hoist the Jolly Roger and set sail to find the legendary Titan’s Treasure! Do you fight with a cutlass or with magic? Are you biding your time until you can shoot your captain in the back, or are you the reason the rum is gone?
Scarlet Sails is an 80,000-word interactive novel by Felicity Banks, author of Attack of the Clockwork Army and Bali B & B. Your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based–without graphics or sound effects–and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
  • Enjoy an adventure on the high seas.
  • Choose your personality, fighting style, and magical skill.
  • Play as male or female or nonbinary; gay, straight, or asexual.
  • Choose who to love, including options for singlehood or polyamory.
  • Face the horrors of your past—and of the deep.
  • Find treasure, treachery, and maybe even true love.

This was an incredible game. I have played it multiple times and i love all the diffirent paths you can choose. My faves were Captain Blood and Firebird and i do love the fact the game allows poly relationships since that is very rare in gaming. I hope the devs make more pirate games. I am def going to check out their other games after playing this. I give this game a 10/10 and would recommend it at any price.

It pains me to give an indie game a negative review, and usually I just refrain from giving any in these cases, but I felt like for this specific game, it's better to actually mention publicly the issues it has so that people know what to expect. This is a story that, in my opinion, really suffers from its short word count. Usually, my personal taste is to favor stories with 120k+ words, so this one is shorter than what I'd usually purchase, but despite my preferences, I had some good shorter experiences too, from time to time. Sadly it wasn't the case here. What I wanted to say is that the length of the story the game tells us isn't really too short, and isn't the culprit for the low word count. The problem comes from the lack of flavor text, which to me is a big issue in an interactive fiction like this one. What I mean by lack of flavor text is simply that the game doesn't give enough lasting repercussions on what we make our MC to be. We get a lot of choices to shape their personality and world view, but when it comes to the narration, the MC remains a bit of a merciless pirate who gets angry at other characters at least internally, who lacks trust in others in some specific in…

One of the best text based game I have played. The story is interesting and doesn’t waste your time with pointless stuff which I appreciate. There are many character relationships to explore. I didn’t get deep into this aspect of the game yet. This game makes role playing as a pirate immersive. The decisions you make almost always have an impact and some even come bite you later in the story. Finally, there are also a bunch of stats that you can affect with your decision. I spent my time making horrible decisions which turn my character into an evil pirate. I like that the game doesn’t just end when you make a bad decision. You just have to deal with it later in the story. I recommend this game for those who like deep but not too convoluted role playing.
