Seven Seas: Adventures

[/h1] *From the perspective of someone that grew up playing several iterations of Sid Meier's Pirates, The systems are all in-place currently, but everything is either barebones or painful to interact with as it stands. Everything I'm about to say for the next few lines is negative as hell, but it's because I want to see these things fixed as soon as possible to give this game the chance it deserves; >Almost every menu I opened, starting with the town-management menu, has bugs. Both visual and gameplay. Buttons doing nothing until they're clicked multiple times (inventory), background flickering when hovering over stuff (town "skill" menu", the works. >Character creation (for some reason) has even less visual options than it did in the playtest. Not a huge deal, but I don't understand removing options that were available before, like alternate faces? >I don't know if they're married to their current mini-map in the upper right corner, but I find that "transparent ink-stain" style is very irritating to deal with. Played through the tutorial until the pirate captain asked me to go sink ships. Most things were fine up to that point. When I went to initiate combat I couldn't get combat to work, it was hard enough to catch any ships since everything seemed to be the same speed, even the heavy trader ships. Once i caught a ship, no matter what I tried, combat would not start, the timer just kept ticking down (even into the negative). When I tried to auto-resolve combat I was sunk (with no clear way to purchase a replacement ship). Eventually I got frustrated and tried to leave the game, and no matter what I hit no option showed up allowing me to exit. I had to alt-f4 to get out. There are some core mechanics here that eventually will be great, the concept is great, and I LOVE Sid Meiers Pirates so I had high hopes for this one. But right now this is way too buggy even for early access, its not a beta, its barely even an Alpha. I will return when its more refined but core mechanisms like exiting the game are going to have to be added first...

Amazing, but so buggy it's basically unplayable in its current state.

The price is high, but is it worth it? I'm only two hours into the game, but it feels good so far. I've read about bugs, but I haven't encountered any game-breaking ones yet. It feels like a predecessor to Sid Meier's Pirates!, which is why I'm playing it. From what I've seen, there are lots of ways to play, and it's clear that the developers put a lot of love into this game. Nevertheless, it is clearly in an early access state, but it is already enjoyable. If the game doesn't fail due to its steep pricing, it has great potential, especially if the servers become well populated. Until then, it's fun to play solo.

This is not a finished game. Once leaving combat, the entire games seems to stop working. Other ships will just circle in a port, If you try to enter combat with another ship you cannot sink a ship nor can yours. The only way to end the subsequent combat is to board every ship in the opposite fleet. If you take over a port the game seems to crash completely.

At this moment in time this game reminds me very much of Sid Miers meets Port Royal without the smooth flowing game play. I xan understand Seven Seas Adventures reasons for wanting to launch, however in my humble opinion there are way too many bugs, issues and glitches with this game for Steam to consider it a game to put on the shelf for sale. The Alpha and Beta have let them down and it would seem that developers felt it safe to launch anyway. There are far more, cheaper, better "finished" products out there for you too play if you enjoy tall ship experiences. £20.99 is a fair price for the game, though Port Royal 1 has better graphics and is a finished product not too mention far cheaper. This however is only my honest opinion and you may say conjecture. Play the demo for yourself before commiting (demo gives 5 hours of game play time hints and tutorial are difficult to follow and font is hard to read, but seriously try this one before you buy it) to a purchase
