About Sherlock Holmes The Awakened

✦ AI summary

Investigate mysterious disappearances linked to an ancient cult while playing as a young Sherlock Holmes confronting the terrifying Cthulhu Mythos, watching his rational mind unravel as you pursue eldritch horrors across Europe and America. This rebuilt adventure combines Lovecraftian horror with detective gameplay, featuring an insanity system that warps your perception as you uncover the truth behind the world's most famous crime-solving duo's origin story.

Experience a nerve-racking Lovecraftian adventure, rebuilt from the ground up with modern graphics and gameplay. Become Sherlock Holmes, and find yourself at the heart of the terrifying Cthulhu Mythos as you investigate a series of mysterious disappearances in Europe and the US.

A Lovecraft meets Sherlock Holmes crossover, The Awakened puts you up against the legendary Cthulhu Mythos. Investigate a series of mysterious disappearances, apparently linked to a dark cult that worships an Ancient God. Whatever their plan is, you must put a stop to it… or face unspeakable consequences.

For the first time in his life, Sherlock is truly afraid. A man of rationale and reason, he faces an otherworldly entity that defies all logic, and this discovery is as enlightening as it is shattering. The pursuit of the truth pushes Sherlock to the verge of madness, and it’s the only story that Watson will never publish.
Taking place in 1882, The Awakened lifts the curtain on how Sherlock and John, mere roommates at the time, became the world-famous crime-solving duo.

  • A reimagining of the 2008 title: Rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine, The Awakened boasts modern graphics and animations, an expanded storyline, numerous side quests and new mechanics including unique insanity gameplay.

Nice remaster, maybe the 2008 version is better but this one's a nice adaptation for it. Something to be taken into account when comparing the two if them are the supernatural elements that are brought into the game. The mysterious thing about the old version of the game is that nothing supernatural was explicit, and the ending was left for the player to interpret. This one feels much less like a Sherlock Holmes game, and far more Lovecraftian. Maybe that was the initial goal of this remaster, but it can feel odd when you've played the previous games in this franchise before. There are plenty of "weird" elements and things happening in the game that cannot be explained logically, and that's what, at least for me, stops it from being a faithful Sherlock Holmes adaptation.

Similar to my feeling of Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, its pretty good! I enjoy that you can now connect more than one piece of evidence to another. My only gripe has to do with the plot. This is spoiler friendly as it gets into it almost immediately in Chapter 2. The plot follows a cosmic/supernatural horror type investigation, one that's a little cheesy in my opinion. I'm personally not a fan of Sherlock Holmes being put into supernatural settings, as I enjoy the realistic elements to his investigations and that fact that its not fantastical. So this is definitely a personal preference more than anything. Besides that, I enjoy the game greatly. Once again, I think they really got Sherlock's character down well in this and same with Watson. Watson is so incredibly charming in this game and I can't help but love him. Probably one of my favorite characterizations of Dr. Watson! <33

Nice graphic for the game from 2023, nice Voice acting, gameplay and puzzle is not bad, the story is promising at first but the ending is kinda rush and feel like incomplete and missing some explanation even though the player already solved the main story. It would be nice if the developer added one more extra chapter like epilogue at the end of the main story to show more how the case make an impact to sherlock and john's life (and also the characters we saved such as people in louisiana, and what happened with the case after the ending. I want to know more!) Overall, it's nice game to me. The personality and the dynamic of sherlock and john are well portrayed imo. Anyway, the story has some potential that can be improved more. It's not bad but it can be better. 7.5/10
