Call of Cthulhu®

In my opinion,- a wonderful visual novel. It feels more like an interactive story, with a couple of branching stories. A detective, Lovecraftian story, where reading and listening is crucial in order to fully immerse into the tale told. Those with an adequate amount of patience,- will surely enjoy it.

Was fun, different, not too hard for a quick run through

Surprisingly good game. Captures Lovecraft vibes. Graphics a bit dated but what can you do.

Can't get past opening cutscene without crashing. Literally cannot play.

This game has a lot going against it: a mix of PS3/PS4-era graphics, slow gameplay, and functioning basically as a walking simulator—all while trying to capture the elusive essence of the Cthulhu mythos in a video game. Yet, somehow, they managed to tell an immersive, wondrous tale of reality being manipulated by forces the player and main character do not fully understand. The game attempts to borrow tabletop RPG elements like character stats, but those frankly don’t have much of an impact. The game features a series of skill checks that I'm sure are mechanically deep on paper, but in practice, they just amount to failing to lockpick a door, seeing a blanked-out response/interaction, or being able to speak an alien language (and it will impact your destiny [probably has to do with what ending you get]. Still, it didn’t hurt the experience to have them there. The entire game is a series of linear pathways, lore building, and character exploration. I am taken aback by the fact that it actually works. The voice acting was superb—stilted with purpose, which is a fine line to walk, but they did it very well. While the movement could have felt better, the clunkiness somehow worked…

I've made multiple attempts to play through this game and I quickly lose interest, it just doesn't do it for me. Gameplay could be better. I can't say it's a terrible game, aside the from the stealth section and well yes, the check points are actually terrible. It's not for me.
