Shots Fired In The Dark Forest is yet another asset flip/construction kit flip from serial shovelware copy+paste "artists", Dnovel/FreeAnimals_Software. These guys do nothing but rip off asset store assets and game tutorials and templates, and dump them on Steam and into DailyIndieGame bundles as cash grabs. Today's "effort" from these guys is Shots Fired In The Dark Forest, and it's a garbage 2D retro platformer slapped together with the godawful Cocos Creator game construction kit, presumably a copy+paste from someone else's actual work developing a game. As a game, it's terrible, of course. It's just a godwful 2D platformer with the "dark foreground, light background" schtick, locked resolution and console peasant controls. It's not clear why Rybalkin puts console peasant controls on his asset flip shovelware, consoles would never allow this garbage on their appliances. Anyway, this is trash. For that reason, as a "game", this is below acceptable standards, and has no real merit or value as a genuine, sincerely made PC game. Using game construction kits doesn't need any talent or professional game development effort, and results in terrible shovelware like Shots Fired In…8 found this helpful
I really like this game, but I feel like it could be much better. The controls feel kind of clunky at first, as you gain speed very fast while in the air and feel really sluggish on the ground, and I couldn't figure out how to shoot on the keyboard, so I had to play it with a controller. It would help if you had a controls editor for the keyboard, or even a screen that shows all of the controls, like on the controller. Second thing I had a problem with was the game not having any audio. I searched for any options, plugged my headphones in and out, even restarted my PC but I didn't hear any sound effects or music. Third thing is that some of the enemies are very unfair (the big plant thing's bullets are really small and I felt cheated whenever I died to it, and the weird thing shooting electricity needs a cooldown, as it shoots too fast and most of the time it killed me and I couldn't even do anything about it). The atmosphere of this game is really nice, the graphics are quite good for an indie game, and even though it has some bugs, if you play with a controller and manage to get through the initial clunk, this game can be quite fun. EDIT: Found out how to change music / sound vo…3 found this helpful
