Players praise the game's charming concept, beautiful art, and engaging medieval trading simulator gameplay that effectively captures the tedium of historical travel. However, they consistently report significant technical problems including bugs with equipment repairs, incorrect cost tooltips, broken event mechanics, and crashes, alongside balance issues like unrewarding quests and overly punishing jungle traversal that make the game feel incomplete and rough around the edges despite its strong core appeal.
I've never seen such a simple concept filled with so many bugs, dodgy events and broken features. I'm spending points on repairing equipment which often doesn't repair equipment. I'm spending guarding points on increasing probability of an event working in my favour to 100%, and still failing. When I stop putting points into guarding, the guarding points never decrease on use. Some events that will cost you money, have a different cost on the tooltip to the actual event window, so you don't know which is which. During an event where the party "seemed to be bonding exceptionally well", I only had one other party member. I had the choice of spending time with Raymond, or spending time with Raymond, or letting Raymond bond with Raymond. I let Raymond bond with Raymond. I chose not to watch... With just one other party member, Giorgio, Giorgio had a fight with Giorgio over the remaining rations. Rather than trying to break up Giorgio and Giorgio, I placed bets on who wins. Giorgio won. Upon successfully delivering a diplomatic gift and getting my reward, I still had the diplomatic gift on me, which I could sell for extra coins at the market. Rome's tavern wouldn't let me rest there th…2 found this helpful
This is a strong concept but feels incomplete. The cycle of quests is relatively the same, there is one character model for each culture, and I don't feel like the game drives players towards any real meaningful goal or outcome. I believe that with unique character models, quests/dialogue, and locations this would be a really excellent game and well worth some time and money, however the game as it stands feels incomplete.1 found this helpful
Definitely not for everyone. Its buggy, and a little rough around the edges. I still would recommend it, though. Because the vibes are immaculate. Its a great little medieval trading simulator.
A small but surprisingly fun and engrossing game about managing your trade caravan as you travel back and forth across the medieval world from Italy to Tibet. It plays like a choose-your-own-adventure story. The art work is beautiful and the music is great. I also like the little touches that differentiate the cultures from each other, although these could be more detailed. I like games about travel and transport (like Euro Truck Sim 2) and this game scratches that itch very well. It really made me appreciate both how difficult and how time-consuming it was to travel long distances in the Middle Ages. There are some annoying bugs at time of writing but for the most part they are easy to work around. The developer seems very active in the Steam forums and is continuing to work on the game even now. Definitely worth full price but I got it on sale 30% off.
The games potential is awesome and I will definetly keep tabs on it, there are multiple draw backs though. Quests aren't very worth the effort mid-late runs and it is never worth taking a long quest simply due to the time given for the quests usually, I'd say increase the long quests by a month or so. Other tweaks could also be directed torwards some balancing, I've found the jungle terrain is almost impossible to traverse even with all the right animals it takes much longer to get through making it wasteful to attempt inner India exploration unless you've got 70 days of food stored. I understand the attempt to make realism for traversing through a jungle but in the current game state it doesn't allow enough depth to make the jungle fun in a challenging way. Maybe just lessen the severity of the jungles effects on animals. Purchasing equipment also didn't seem worth it, the decay rate compared to your possible repair rate even with 5 hammers is tough to keep anything long surviving. Another question is why the limit of 5 party members? I would've loved it to have a specialist for the camp categories and having a couple more terrain specialist. Possibly tie the expansion of par…
I keep crashing :(
