Just a datapoint: This installed and launched fine for me with the default steam settings on Linux Mint. And the other reviewer who said there are only a few skirmish maps is not completely correct; there’s also a random map generator. Some of the UI and graphics stuff is decidedly dated and makes me appreciate newer games. But still, it is what it was, and that’s why I bought it rather than one of the remakes. Now nostalgia, here I come!2 found this helpful
really fun to play
best space sim in years
I used to beat this and other stardock games on the hardest difficulties. Now the "FIXED" it and as soon as you start to win it turns on AI cheating to keep you from winning. Even on normal mode. Even if you take 3/4 of the planets and have tones of money and resources, it still overwhelms you. Even if everything on a planet is 100% upgraded and 100% tech tree finished with everything done that is possible the AI will still stomp you. Just give up now. The game devs ruined this game! Stardock has done this will all the old classics! I will never buy their games again!
Older and not as complex as Stellaris, but still gives you the universal strategy play.
Great multiplayer with NPCs, and awesome variability of the difficulties
