Skellboy Refractured

This is tough to give a bad review to, but it makes too many cardinal sins IMHO. Fun to start, cute, funny if not slightly corny and the combat was simple but had promise. Things start to go south when you realize there is no map and the world rotates as you travel, making it hard to keep orientated and the only map is are static ones as posters. The camera angles get REALLY bad in places and get you killed, not to mention an entire sequence of walking across beams at odd angles with other beams blocking your view which is maddening. Then the boss battles ... SIGH. First the bosses don't have a health bar (which I find ridiculous in ANY game ... it wouldn't be bad in games that visually show the damage, but this does not) so you have no idea how close you were when you died. That is compounded by the MAJOR sin of you now have to travel back for a minute and then listen to monologue all over again. That was the last straw for me and the missus.

Classic Zelda meets Castle Crashers.

I was honestly really on the fence with this game sometimes. The pixel art is beautiful, and compliments well with a rudimentary yet satisfying game play loop and central mechanic. The story isn't anything to write home about, as you can expect most of your enjoyment out of the game play and sprinkle of humor throughout. Now in terms of flaws, there are a bit more than would have been preferred. The most glaring ones being quality of life issues: lack of menu map, backtracking, limited inventory space, enemy concentration in certain areas being a bit much, late game advanced customizable pieces not respawning (this is very important to know because if you are not the most ecstatic to "git gud", these items are make or break in the late game and losing them forever sucks), and the occasional item duplication when bumping into a crow with a hat. The most glaring flaw in my personal opinion was the backtracking, which constituted a lot of my time. I could see the place of it from a design perspective, just know this if that isn't your thing. flaws aside but the experience was still a fine romp nonetheless. Amazing game. still came back to play it after 3 years. real hidden gem of a game. I hope there will be a sequel in the future.

I like the art style, and I dig the progression system where you kill enemies and upgrade yourself with their parts. But the game itself isn't good. Combat is super simple and gameplay quickly becomes very repetitive. The upgrading loses its shine quickly too. There are tons of the same enemy over and over, so after killing one or two for parts there's no real point in fighting them. I'd recommend playing the demo first. It shouldn't take long for you to figure out if this game is for you or not.
