So Fart Away

I went into [i]So Fart Away[/i] expecting it to be a one-note, silly and crude romp; and, while it is silly and crude, the puzzles and sokoban mechanics were much better executed than I expected. After completing the game I have a great appreciation for the effort that went into it, it could've easily been less than what it was. I mean, the game has Fart in the title, it's not like you're expecting a masterpiece. But, from the great quality and quantity of the puzzles, as well as the surprisingly expressive pixel art animation; the game is oozing with detail and flavour while remaining minimalist, you can tell the devs put in a lot of care to round the edges and polish every surface. As for the humour and narrative, it is pretty much what you would expect. Toilet humour, butt jokes, fat cops eating donuts, luchadores being ridiculous, Italians; it hits all the classics. Even if you don't really mesh with it, it is unobtrusive enough to ignore and enjoy the puzzles for what they are, even if the puzzles themselves also revolve around pushing fart clouds around. Overall, [i]So Fart Away[/i] is easily worth the price and your time, whether you just like toilet humour or purist sok…

In the highly competitive world of fart-based puzzle games, So Fart Away is second only to the great Billy BumBum. So Fart Away is a Sokoban where eating food makes your character produce fatal gas that must then be wafted around to open paths and ultimately reach the exit door. Level exits open after all food is consumed. Gas creation caused by food is a unique mechanic that's explored in a relatively breezy but still enjoyable fashion. Sokoban sickos will not break much of a mental sweat here, which is completely fine because that's not what the game aims to achieve. What matters most in a puzzle game is how interestingly its mechanical system is explored. On that front, I declare So Fart Away a success. Recommended, especially as a little snack between more demanding games. And, yes, thankfully you can turn off fart noises in the options.

Potty humor aside, a solid and fairly tricky sokoban

Does just enough to warrant a recommendation. Although not up to my tastes, I appreciate the art direction and humor to stand out among a litany of boring, barebones puzzle titles. It's got some neat ideas in here, just don't expect too many 'a-ha' moments, as levels tend to repeat gimmicks. Also, it's a bit on the easier side, so you probably won't have to stress too much.
