After a devastating meteor shower, Earth has turned into a desert wasteland. Humanity has been forced to relocate to Mars, where they live under the strict leadership of megacorps WEYSS and PANDORA.
You take on the role of Casey Black, who has been slaving away as a pilot for WEYSS. After being labeled a traitor by a computer error, your only chance to survive is joining the rebels of the Anoxia Station.
There you find out about their secret project: the S.E.E.D – a mysterious device which could lead to humanity's salvation.
As a maverick mining pilot, you help the rebels while gathering valuable minerals, under constant threat from PANDORA's flying drone army.
Will you be able to bring independence and freedom to the rest of humanity on Mars?

Being a PC gamer, I've grown used to poor ports. It's a sad fact that in today's gaming industry consoles are considered first when it comes to new releases, with PC being a tacked-on afterthought held together by ducktape, snot and wishful thinking. Space Rift breaks the mold by being a poor PC port... of a PC game. Starting with the unskippable opening sequence (Don't you just love those?), continuing to catastrophic controls (with both gamepad and mouse/keyboard) and finishing off with clipped screen edges, poor explanations of its control scheme and an overall feeling that this is not a game as much as a shameless moneygrab riding on the success of the VR version. Don't buy this game, don't play this game, don't even mention this game in polite society.16 found this helpful

Unable to play unless in vr mode due to mode. Mouse DOA, flight stick DOA, most of keyboard DOA. Non VR version DOA.7 found this helpful

I've heard that the VR version of the game works quite well - but for that you need to have the VR hardware to play. This review is specifically targeting the non-VR version's shortcomings. It seems like it could be a fun little space adventure WITH A BIT MORE WORK TO FIX A COUPLE OF BUGS THAT SORT OF MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY PROPERLY. You are a pilot of a mining spaceship, you have to mine various minerals from asteroids to make money that will allow you to buy oxygen so you don't die out there in space. Well, that's your official job anyway. The thing is, due to a fluke in your ship's onboard computer system you get flagged as "abetting a wanted criminal" and your employer marks you for termination by drone fighter ships. So you're on the run. You turn to the people who accidentally got you into this trouble... they're building a system that will terraform Mars and free the people from the corporation's greedy grip. So they send you to... wait for it... mine various minerals from asteroids to find supplies for their project. In turn, they pay you so that you can upgrade your ship's engines, mining systems, and weapons. So yeah, you're an asteroid miner who frequently …1 found this helpful
