A friend got me this game over Christmas. He may not actually be my friend...3 found this helpful
Ever since playing Spud! last Xmas I've been living in a padded cell repeating "It's a little gnome, it's a little gnome!" over and over. The only reason I'm recommending it is that someone might play it and join me in my madness...1 found this helpful
Spud! is a classic point-and-click adventure game developed by Charybdis Ltd and published by Alternative Software Ltd that embraces the design philosophy of older adventure titles built around puzzle solving, exploration, and humor-driven storytelling. Originally created during a period when adventure games focused heavily on experimentation and unusual world design, the game offers a deliberately old-school experience that values creativity and personality over modern convenience systems. Instead of cinematic action or streamlined objectives, Spud! invites players into a strange world where curiosity and persistence become the keys to progress. The story follows an unlikely hero named Spud, who becomes responsible for stopping the dangerous Doctor Chillblane and preventing his plans from bringing chaos and domination across the world. The narrative quickly establishes its comedic tone, leaning into absurd situations and unusual characters rather than dramatic storytelling. Spud is not designed as a traditional heroic figure. Instead, the game builds much of its charm around placing an ordinary and often humorous protagonist into increasingly bizarre circumstances. Exploration s…
Gotta be one of the worst point n click games out there man I aint strong enough
The intro is fun in a baffling way, but then it becomes very boring and tedious really. You are Santa's grandson I think, and you gotta save him from some guy, all told to you by a Princess Leia hologram reference. You explore his house and in the basement it plays scary music and some Christmas "Gnomes" are just killed and bloodied. You gotta get at least 4 raindeers to fly the sled and Prancer, The Inflatable, is just a pool toy for some reason. Rudolph won't get off his computer so you gotta unplug it and he goes "fine!". Donner is taking a shower and you gotta use a wrench on a valve to make it hot or cold, idk which and she kind of teases you for some reason. You leave and then you get shot down onto a tropical island and then its pretty much boring at this point. This game has like "real time" panorama view for a click and point, which seems like a different decision to me. I think this makes the load time really slow for every scene so its tedious. Act 2 seemed like it wanted me to do so much too, just gave up.
This is such an odd little game, I can't exactly call it good and yet I still find it incredibly amusing. My advice would be to get it when it's on sale and have a go at it. Also Spud's design feels like he was meant for Pokemon.
