What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players describe this game as a bare-bones experience lacking meaningful content and depth, with complaints focusing on severe death penalties that erase progress, simplistic enemy AI, and limited endgame activity once basic structures are built. While the game is compared to 2D Minecraft or roguelike hybrids, reviewers feel it fails to deliver the engaging mechanics of those titles and consider it a poor value even at its low price point, with technical performance issues compounding the overall disappointment.
This game is weakpoint in your library so make sure to get rid of it.
10 found this helpful
very basic and lacking in every aspect even for the 4 eur price point it had for most of its existence, barely anything to see and do. can't remember if the death penalty was mentioned on the store page when I bought it, but taking away xp and potentially entire levels already gained after death is a ♥♥♥♥ move regardless. it's not stolen assets though, like some idiots claim, it just uses the same texture pack other, sometimes more popular games do.3 found this helpful

There is plenty of freedom in walking simulators too. I 'm not sure I understood the point of this game. It seems to be a world generator and nothing more. Ennemies are stupid there are not friendly NPC, Everything we build isn't interactive, only things we plant and grow can be harvested and used, but then, that only let us build more or heal from wound gotten from stupid ennemies. Once you've build three or four two flours strongholds there is nothing to do at all. And it's a finished game, so it's not as if we could expect development. It's not bad, it's just a 2D Minecraft without hidden worlds or chest, or anything fun. Sorry but even at this price, there are more interesting ways to spend money on steam. I downvote because (I can make a neutral evaluation sadly) because right now, Squarelands sells itself as a sandbox adventure, and through this is a neat sandbox, there was no adventure to be fonund anywhere.
Looks like Realm Of The Mad God combined with Terraria/Minecraft elements but runs terrible and there's not a lot of fun to be had with this one.
