Stalked in Solitude

Just played this and have kind of mixed thoughts on it. If Steam had a neutral rating, then I'd have gone with that, but it doesn't so regrettably I'm giving it a thumbs down. The game starts off well enough and has decent visuals. The gameplay is pretty basic - it tells you to go do something, and you go do it and click on the thing that needs to be done. A masked intruder breaks into your house and then you've got to hunt for a particular item (the remote control for the garage door) to get out. And that was the moment where I started to find the game tedious and I lost interest in continuing, as the mechanics of this section just felt... off, kind of? The game tells you to listen for the intruder's breathing to know whether it it safe to enter certain rooms, but to me it felt like the audio cues were very sporadic, and very unreliable, often misleading you completely. Then there was a moment where I spotted the intruder in a corner - so surely you'd expect it to be safe for me to go into a different room, right? Turns out, nope! so so good! spooky and tense! great little short game with great sound effects and scares! multiple endings which is nice!

We played this on stream and it uhh wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would be. It's all the wrong lessons from Fears to Fathom and Puppet Combo with none of the charm. The game is slightly buggy, the items appear AFTER you need them which is just bad, the searching for the baseball bat was real a big wtf moment, and the "story" was dime a dozen lazy. "Stalked in Solitude" is, well, short horror game. See, you are a teenager (i think?) alone in his parrents big, empty and awkward house. There is a serial killer on the loose. You have to survive. I really tried to like this one, but it's so empty, the horror moments are so bland and...well the game is really short. I have managed to finish it on accident while creating the review video. This game tried to clone Puppet Combo but ended up being more half-baked than a Bethesda game launch. The story and the idea behind it is pretty good, but the only problem is with the gameplay itself. - you move too slow. Somehow you walk faster when you crouch, and go super speed when holding [A + W] or [D + W]. - No crosshairs, which makes trying to locate items and whatnot much more difficult than it needs to be. - looking around makes you feel like the protagonist has a neck cast on and can't properly look down (movement is stiff, wooden, and nauseating) - The doors only open one way; oftentimes hitting you in the face or catching you in a temporary trap until the door closes, forcing you keep your distance when opening any door - no pause menu (you have to exit out of the game by clicking Alt + Tab) then close the windows to close the game. - VHS filter is too excessive (to the point of causing a headache when playing for prolonged periods trying to figure out how the game's mechanics work) and wish there was an option to disable it. The lack of any settings of any kind was an immediate turn off on this one for me, then the longer i played the harder it was to look at with the vhs filter. Especially with the entire first part of the game being "pick this up, find this, find THIS" it just wasn't fun and gave me a headache. Also the constantly getting smacked by doors when trying to leave a room was not a fun time. I swear I could never stand far enough back from them.
