[後半に日本語レビューあり]
A “for those in the know” vertical shmup born on PC-98, revived in 2020s style
This work lets you savor a 90s-born “sexy” taste through the exhilaration of vertical shooting and the interplay of fully voiced cutscenes. Its value lies not in sheer bullet volume, but in the mood woven by the tempo of the shooting stages and the “promised rewards.” A brisk progression reminiscent of 90s OVAs is its hallmark. The loadout centers on orthodox vulcan/laser plus six subweapons. Slip through tight spots with the short-term power-up “Weapon Crash” and the gap-cutting “Boost.” The S-TRIBUTE philosophy carries modern ease of play: rewind/quick save/various assists/optional gear carryover, and modes for Story, Arcade, Score Attack, and Boss Rush. Art is by the late Takahiro Kimura. Bold, glossy silhouettes, strong linework, and superb character “presence,” together with voiced banter, deliver the era’s appeal in a modern sensibility. The sound has late-90s clarity and helps the snappy scene changes. The PC-98 version leaned adult; the PC Engine (TurboGrafx) version toned it down greatly; the 1998 Saturn version refined the “presentation” with redraws and full voice.…26 found this helpful
The only reason I will recommend this game is because it AT LEAST SAYS this is the Saturn version and not the PC-98 version uncensored. Tbh the scenes are the same, except they are in skimpy outfits instead of nudity of the original version. So it’s not that BIG of a deal. Now the other reason I dislike the game, there is no subtitles for the Japanese dialogue sadly, BUT the actual saturn version didnt have English subtitles either, So can you really be mad at City connection?. Yes this is a barebones emulation port but we do have English menus and it plays perfectly fine on steam deck. I just wish the game had localization.4 found this helpful
This is a fun shmup, but there are a couple caveats. The story is entirely untranslated, no subtitling of any sort. I thought that wouldn't be a problem because most shmups don't have that much going on story-wise, but this one does, it has fairly long, though skippable, scenes. Secondly, there are, at times, very bad emulation issues where music and sound effects will play wrong or garble. I solved this with a re-install, and being 500MB, that's kinda just an inconvenience. The game itself is a fairly forgiving shmup with a health system allowing you to get hit quite a few times and (I think) infinite continues, a variety of weapons and sub weapons to pick up. Bullet patterns are solid, and I imagine you could spend a lot of time earning a 1cc if you so chose.3 found this helpful

Classic Schmup with some good ol 80s/90s anime artwork. The game isnt subtitled unfortunately but its a nice schmp with some good QoL and voice acting, you just wont understand it unless you speak japanese. a fun time2 found this helpful
I played through the whole game and had one semi-major problem with it, and a few minor problems with it. Firstly, while I was playing this, there was an instance my Xbox 360 controller stopped functioning correctly and controls were completely out of place. This affected multiple games that would use my Xbox 360 controller. Unplugging, then plugging it back in fixed it for me. Minor problems: - There's no subtitles for cutscenes, so I have no idea what's happening story-wise. - The game guide says Lightning has several swords of light, but it's actually just one and its direction can change by your movement when you're not firing. - To criticize the game itself, the laser goes over enemy bullets, so you can't see enemy projectiles coming towards you beneath it. (-) When the screen is busy with lots of enemies or bullets, the game can slow down, but that's really advantageous, so I can't really count this as a problem. Negative reviews say it's brand new, but I believe others when they say it's built into the game. It's not like my PC can't handle this old game. I thought I remember The Guardian Legend played on NEStopia experienced slow down too, and I wouldn't blame NEStopi…
