About Subterrarium

Subterrarium is a game about digging your way home through…unconventional means.
Collect money from dirt, use it to buy soda from vending machines, and then use that soda to water the seeds scattered around the level.
Every plant gives you an advantage, whether it’s a vine that allows you to reach great heights, or a bombplant that clears out a chunk of dirt for you.
But be careful—with every move, the dirt becomes more unstable. One wrong step could lead to a fatal cave-in.

Key Features

  • Mind-bending puzzles about plant growing and money management
  • An adventure mode featuring procedurally generated puzzles that change every time you play

Subterrarium is a short but sweet puzzle game, with a harder (but endless) procedural mode. I've only played the hand-made puzzles so far, but enjoyed them thoroughly. Movement is what I would describe as a turn-based platformer, where gravity still affects you, but timing is unimportant. Levels are brief but challenging, and starting over never feels too frusterating. Don't expect too much content, I believe there were 8 hand-made levels. However if you are into the procedural portion as well, that's endless;) on top of that I wouldn't be surprized if several more levels get added with time, we'll see. As it is, an hours worth of puzzling is definitely worth the cup of coffee you're buying the dev, so definitely give it a try if you like casual puzzlers.

This little indie game caught my eye. It seemed a thinking man's game. And it made me think a little bit about the classic Digdug. The game has two modes (not counting the succint tutorial), Challenge which are preset levels with an intended solution and Adventure, which is an endless mode, which tracks your progression like an arcade game. The gameplay is identical in both. You can move around and dig dirt in an direction, though unless you manage to get rocket fuel you are only able to travel upwards one square before gravity pulls you back down. Each dirtblock you smash gives you one coin, which can be used to unlock fuel, which in turn can be used to power up your jetpack for one extra jump or to water plants, mushrooms or trigger bombs. All in all, it does make for an interesting time. Though it is a game that requires patience and sharp thinking over quick reflexes as all moves are turn-based. (Bombs keep ticking down, but ground overhead will hover indefinately if you do not move before triggering a dirtalanche.) While I like the game, I feel like there's a bit of a missed oppurtunity here. I found that the challenges were definately more fun, where the game shines. The …

A very simple game, kept me busy for a few minutes but ultimately I found it to be so arbitrarily random, limiting, and difficult that I lost interest pretty quickly. It's exceedingly easy to make one little mistake and then winning becomes impossible. Can't see any potential replay value, and I most certainly don't enjoy the game enough to want to actually try for level 3. The game is a very low price, so there's that. Is it worth the money? Well, I played it for about 25 minutes or so, and people have paid a lot more before to be relatively entertained for that amount of time. All depends on perspective I guess, but from my perspective the game is uninstalled and will remain such. I wouldn't recommend it, but I'll end on a high note. I have no damn clue how to make games, and this might be someone's first crack at it. Well done. I wouldn't say it's necessarily 'bad', if that means anything. It's still a game, and SOMETIMES winning is possible though I suspect that there's occasions when the game screen loads and from the get-go it's impossible, but I just can't be arsed to experiment with the game to see if that's true. Like I said, it seems as though randomness has a big role to…

kinda short, and needs more challenge puzzles, but the mechanic is enjoyable and the game is oddly addictive.
