About Sudden Strike 4

✦ AI summary

Command over 100 historically authentic units across three WWII campaigns as the Allies, Germans, or Soviets, each with nine unique commanders like Patton and Montgomery who unlock distinct tactical abilities. Exploit tank weaknesses, orchestrate ambushes, and coordinate air strikes with full tactical freedom, backed by pause-and-play mechanics and Steam Workshop modding.

Sudden Strike 4 sends you off on three extensive campaigns set amongst the battlefields of World War II.

Commanding the Allied, German or Soviet troops, you will lead over 100 different units into battle; like the German bomber Heinkel He111, the Russian T-34 tank, the British Hawker Typhoon fighter plane and the notorious German Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger".

In a first for the Sudden Strike series, you can now choose from one of nine individual commanders, such as George Patton or Bernard Montgomery, who will each allow for different approaches to combat and boast unique abilities.

Prove your strategic expertise in over 20 demanding singleplayer scenarios and the challenge-focused skirmish mode.

Exploit the weak spots of tanks, set up an ambush, occupy buildings with infantry, outmaneuver the enemy with clever positioning or unleash devastating air strikes – how you approach each mission is up to you!

Modding support with Steam Workshop integration.

Optional „Pause & Play“ for more tactical depth

Slop. Full stop. As soon as you start the game, you'll notice the game's presentation that would feel right at home on a Pay-2-Win Android game app. The camera doesn't really let you zoom in or out much, so you'll be playing the entire game at the "zoom-level" you see in the screenshots. This game functionally serves as one-sided WW2 propaganda and doesn't preserve any shades of historical accuracy from the conflict. It's goes for the big and dumb "Saving Private Ryan" approach. I'd argue this entire franchise was rendered obsolete after the 3rd game by Men of War 2: Assault Squad.

It has numerous bugs. The number of missions you can't finish because the game is full of holes is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ astonishing. The Falaise Pocket mission is a perfect example. It literally won't end if there's even a single vehicle left behind, even if it's completely empty. Another example is the Fourth Battle of Kharkov. If you play the mission your own way and eliminate the enemies using your own strategy, you won't be able to progress because the game expects you to follow a specific sequence. For ♥♥♥♥'s sake, I bought this game to lead troops into battle and come up with my own strategies. I'm not going to follow your boring, scripted way of completing every mission.

Utter trash. Quit after trying for hours on "Battle of the Bulge". Enemy placement feels like traps and tricks the entire way, and success only comes from trial-and-error and savescumming. However, the final wave is just a brutal joke. Barely any reinforcements and prep time and you have to fight off a dozen tanks at two locations? These conditions are so harsh that it's downright bullying. This game wasn't fun to begin with but this really made it miserable beyond words. I don't know how this series made it to 5 but I definitely won't be anywhere near this garbage IP in the future. People who worked on this game, know that you wasted time crafting a hot steaming pile of $hit.

One of the original and best strategy war games.

hidden gem, underated even in discount and standard edition offer more hours. there are some difficult mission and the game want you to be resourcefull or lure the enemy to your own traps. overall love and hate this game is gem. there's a solo bonus mission where you play as ragtag to steal or sneak in enemy teritory kinda like commando rts does but only 3. reccomend all dlc but pacific war and desert afrikan campaign is really good. I play mostly on igpu which have power of z2 cpu and probably on steam deck could ran smoothly

Not very fun. having blind units with terrible pathfinding while the enemy can pretty much do whatever they want in the campaign is a pain. Why did I get the DLCs?
