Swords & Bones 3

(Note: Those energy bolts up top? Is for dashing.................. Press "V"........ Not sure of controller equivalent.) S&B 1: Money grind was sky high. S&B 2: I couldn't jump on the platform on the first level of the first area. S&B 3: Everything in this one was... Just right. I did it. I actually did it. I got the True End. I can't believe it. So this game... I approve of. Very much so.

What I like about this indie series is that every character has its own abilities and moveset, making each entry in the "Sword and Bones" series unique. You play as somewhat of a rogue in this game. You have a short dagger, but you have a high jump and dodge ability. To beat everything you need to purchase upgrades to collect grails in each stage and then beat the final boss. It's very easy, and even though this one is a tad trickier than the other Sword and Bones games, I still wished there was more of a challenge because I was otherwise really enjoying playing it.

I've played all the swords & bones games now. They're all fun, low-budget games. This one had music that didn't fit the theme on level 2 and music so annoying I turned it off on level 3, but otherwise it was a decent game and I had a good time with it.

You know the drill at this point: it's that time every 500 years when demons can invade and when the Doomslayer is busy elsewhere, some other hero must fill in and get the grace of the gods by collecting golden trophies, so as to get the special equipment and open the path to the final battle (for the next half millennia, that is). This episode is centered on a rogue character and makes sure the difference with the previous heroes is not merely cosmetic. Even before getting the double jump, this is the most agile protagonist so far; he even has an ability associated to a fourth button or key, a dash that can pass through enemies with no damage. At first it can be used only twice for every stage, but the number can be upgraded with shop items. He is equipped with a short sword in a series where the player characters have short reach even with regular swords, so the timing of a strike must be fairly precise, to prevent an incoming enemy from connecting with the body before the blade. To compensate, once the first strike connects, an efficient three-hit combo can be executed. In a strange choice, the character executes an animation when launching a spell that leaves him open to enemy…

The sequel that the original Swords & Bones deserves.

All of the Sword & Bones games are fun and worth the price.
