About SZEN

What is SZEN?
  • A short, standing VR experience that features charming and calming music composed by Daniel Manoiu.
  • A 360° musical Virtual Reality safe-space, where we can leave our hectic, busy lives for a moment and enter a world where you experience a place of melodic tranquility
  • A place to disconnect for a little while and feel childlike wonder

SZEN was developed as a VR Experience for the HTC VIVE. Vive controller wand use is optional, but using it allows you to skip ahead if you want to get to your favorite part quickly.

SZEN is a free VR experience. It worked on my HTC Vive, and Index system, looked ok, play ok, sounded ok. It is a 360 degree CGI experience of scenes that are on rails. There is a flying motion at the start that might trigger motion sickness or vertigo. The music was ok. There is no vr interactive parts. You can use the controller to skip scenes. Try this short free experience.

Instead of being a game, "SZEN" is a software application that presents a poorly made art exhibition, a "VR experience", there's no gameplay, you just put your VR hat on and sit in a crap little art exhibition and look at stuff. It doesn't even work well with modern VR headsets. We get this non-game shovelware on Steam whenever your usual Starbucks barista/McDonalds frycook art school dropout finally gets a restraining order from the local art galleries so turns to Steam Direct to try get their art published somewhere so they can finally dream of moving out of their parents basement. It's true that games can be art... art is where the pinnacles of craftsmanship and quality meet vision and narrative to create an experience far greater than the sum of the parts. This isn't a game at all, and the craftsmanship and narrative are terrible. This isn't making art better, it's just making gaming worse. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetri…
