I love the premise Temple of Snek has: a puzzle-rhythm adventure based on the classic game of Snake. In the beginning, it doesn't feel so bad, especially as you eat dudes to grow in size (or occasionally shrink) and deal with the advantages/disadvantages it comes with. Temple of Snek supports the original Snake formula with a metronome: everything moves to the beat of the music, including you and NPCs. Furthermore, Temple of Snek expands upon that formula with traps, railings, enemies, 3D spaces with verticality, and more. This is all well and good until you're hours deep into this game and you're dealing with grandiose puzzles that demand you to cross cross around multiple rooms in a Very Specific and Exact way. It's especially hard to manage when you have to deal with the basic trappings of like causing Snek to bump into walls (or yourself), or you get stabbed BY something. I understand that some puzzle games can be like this, but it becomes a chore when you have to restart from a checkpoint all because you made one wrong move, which feels about as punishing as the actual Snake game. Instantly restarting in a room only works best when you can feasibly complete it in about one …1 found this helpful
I’m obsessed. I haven’t played a snake game since the early days of cell phones, and let me tell you—this one is fantastic. The puzzles are just challenging enough to make you stop and think, and the little poop animation after you eat someone is way funnier than it should be. Being able to customize your snek and even play classic Snake were awesome bonuses I definitely wasn’t expecting!1 found this helpful
I may just be stupid, but I believe I softlocked myself in my run. I wouldn't know because the game gives very little guidance on how to progress after a certain point. Exploring to find the right track again also wouldn't be that bad if not for the fixed pace required by the games mechanics. I also find the checkpoint system frustrating to work with. I'm probably just not built for Temple of Snek, as a lot of people seem to enjoy it. This might be a michael-type game.
temple of sucks
this is what you get if you took the classic snake, added ramps, traps and moving food. honestly its a simple concept. but some of the puzzles are confusing (as a puzzle should be). honestly a very enjoyable experience. if you wanted the OG snake to be 3d, then theres a classic mode you might want to check out. yes the game starts out slow, however you can change the speed in the options. one thing to keep in mind. on the floor you will see double arrows that light up when you go over them. these are checkpoints. and usually these guide you forward, but not always. it is possible to softlock yourself at a checkpoint. but just use the go back to checkpoint multiple times to cycle through previous checkpoints like an undo button. the controller works extremely well for this game, it only has a few of the buttons needed.
Way better than i expected. The mix of classic snake and exploration creates a very interesting concept that works well as a puzzle game. Normally i'm not patient playing puzzle games, but this one i was patient, so much so that i was focussing on every part of what i can do through the areas in the game. Moving through the levels is a bit confusing, not because of the puzzle but mostly due to how the snek moves in every tile when turns, even in a few areas that have stuff that covers the screen, but one could get used to it after some minutes of gameplay, which that compensates it. Overall, Temple of Snek is very good.
