Upaon: A Snake's Journey

$3 just for some good fun. Cool graphics, no bugs or glitches, I enjoyed it. Not really re-playable but for $3 I can't ask for much. Nice to see something simple like this when some indie games have feature creep and are too ambitious. Fun game in a small file size with a cheap price that still delivers exactly what it promises. 7/10.

A quirky puzzle game that tweaks the classic snake-game formula into a series of short challenges. The pixel art and animation adds a cute charm to the game's simplicity. I enjoyed it.

Quick Description: -Upaon a Snake's Journey is a well designed puzzle game that mixes Snake and Sokoban. I own all of this dev's games and have enjoyed every one. He makes smaller indie games but all of them are fun and well made. Having said that, I wasn't expecting too much going in, but left pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I was big fan of Snake games, but I really enjoyed my 2+ hrs w/ this one. The puzzles look great visually and pack a fairly hefty challenge. Most players will complete all of the content in 2-4 hrs, but the later levels can be pretty tricky in a good way. Consensus: -Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4 and makes up 25% of my reviews). There is no undo button but it doesn't feel as necessary as it would in most sokoban games b/c the levels are pretty quick and tend to rely on trial or error w/ a good sprinkle of thoughtful strategy. Outside of that, it's very well polished, offers a fun and vibrant visual style, and has a fun soundtrack. As far as sokoban games go, I think this one is probably somewhere in the middle of the pack, but at the $3 price tag, I think it's pretty good value. It's an easy one to recommend when on sale.

Upaon is a perfect game for quick and casual gameplay, but if you're not careful it will catch you, because its mechanics are so well implemented, the replay is so functional, that the fast-paced dynamics keep you hooked and addicted. And when you least expect it, poof, there goes 1 hour of gameplay. Perfect to kill some time, catching up on podcasts, exercising your brain or having fun without much commitment. There are 100 stages to challenge yourself in the company of this friendly snake and in this charismatic pixel art. Within its proposal Upaon is excellent in everything it does.

This game was better than i expected. It's basically snake + sokoban, movement is fast and fluid, art and music are nice, and it's not too easy.
