About Tenebris: Terra Incognita

Tenebris: Terra Incognita is a challenging turn-based RPG set in a gloomy science fiction setting. Take command of the best fighters of humanity and save the expedition of the Solaris ship, which crashed on an uncharted planet infested with terrible monsters!

CHARACTERS

We are big fans of series like Darkest Dungeon, X-COM and Disciples, and we want to give players a similar experience through deep hero customization and career progression. Having 5 basic classes with easily recognizable roles at the beginning of the playthrough, the player will be able to choose character development branches from 17 advanced classes as they gain experience. Each specialization has separate talent trees, allowing the player to create unique characters within the same class.

The game has a full inventory system. Found or purchased items - weapons, armor, special equipment - can not only improve the basic characteristics of the characters, but also influence their talents or give new abilities.
  • Experiment with the talent branches of the characters.
  • Combine your abilities with equipment items.
  • Create your own unique build, and conquer the world of Tenebris!

MONSTERS

The damaged hull of the ship turned out to be the least of the expedition's problems: the people, not having time to recover from the heavy landing, were immediately attacked by huge bugs. The size, speed and aggressiveness of the enemy would not be such a problem if not for the amazing organization of the swarm. These bugs, through chemical signals, are able not only to coordinate, but also to strengthen and accelerate each other. The more there are, the more dangerous each individual enemy is.

If you manage to defend the ship and gain a foothold in the insect-infested Misty Wasteland, your troops will be able to open other areas where the bug scouts do not dare to go. And if you learn from the swarm, you will understand: there, beyond the borders of the wasteland, you will need new abilities, different combat tactics and, most likely - bigger guns.

STARSHIP "SOLARIS"

The Solaris ship is your base and the only relatively safe place on the planet. Here you can purchase weapons and armor, awaken new recruits from cryo-sleep and send wounded heroes for treatment. The resources found in missions will allow you to improve the ship's bays and expand the capabilities of your squad.

In addition to the expedition commander and the head of the security service, together with whom you will solve the main task of escaping the planet, you will be assisted by the chief doctor, leading engineer and warehouse manager. Each crew member will have unique tasks for you, and solving them will allow you to obtain additional resources and technologies that can increase the chances of survival of the expedition.

Be careful - the ship's supplies are scarce, and you will have to fight for the planet's resources. You have to carefully choose what to spend the little you can get in battles.

Will you be able to conquer the dark planet and save the expedition?

The crew has left all the decisions to you - proceed at your own risk!

So if you stick with one squad on higher difficulties the game is fine. The problem is that, ostensibly, you will need more than one squad at some point as there is a fatigue rating which means that you will have to take them out of rotation whilst they recuperate. The fact we have more than a minimum squad also suggests they are expendable. I like impactful failures resulting in catastrophic conditions like death but only providing they are earned due my own lack of forethought, attention to detail, mistakes, or ignorance and not a result of RNG, scripted narrative, or conditions beyond my control. It is also nice when there is the ability to recover, regardless of difficulty, from such outcomes. XCOM, as an example, was excellent in this regard even if it was prone to, shall we say, some intermittent and unlikely occurrences. If, however, you try to prepare for the anticipated need for future personnel by using your higher level squad for away missions while using the new recruits for the training missions you will either lose some in the process or you will have to save scum the levels to get them through it. Maintaining parity of your units isn't merely difficult, it seems t…

Good game, like darkest dungeon in space but easier, or at least less tilting. ♥♥♥♥ the warrens, anyways. The macro is shallow but it may deepen with development. Gene therapy is overtuned though. If this is supposed to be a strategic game, nerf some of the fatigue and status management techs.

The game has a lot of potential with a few major issues. One of them is tedium. Lots of side missions that reward too little for literally 20-30 minutes of your real-life time. A few hours into the game, and my inventory is flooded with the same tier of boring starter weapons/armor. Another issue is the lack of system descriptions. For instance, a gene stimulator buff you can unluck to give your soldiers 25% more XP; however, it only lasts a single mission while taking about 1/3 of your total resources to activate, per soldier. Nowhere does it list a duration. This applies to many things in the game, including typos in descriptions. If the devs clean up the descriptions and make quests a bit more rewarding, the game has a ton of potential and I'd recommend it.

Very fun and surprisingly competent game on the tune of "Darkest Dungeon meets Starcraft", but with enough of its own ideas to not be just another DD clone. And for the modest asking price, it's definitely a good recomendation for those who enjoy this subgenre of TBS.

Enjoying this game so far!! Simple, but room for growth... Just a straight forward good game... Looking forward to some quality of life improvements, but as it is, I'm enjoying it!
