About Teragard
A retro, open-world JRPG.
The kingdom of TERAGARD has fallen into despair. As a band of adventurers, you must explore the ravaged nation while living off the land and fending for yourselves, as you seek to uncover the truth behind the atrocities that have brought this once-great land to such a horrific low point.
Take on the final boss whenever you feel ready, with the freedom to spend as much time as you desire on exploring the world, leveling up and customizing your characters, and uncovering the secrets of an eternal evil that has long been lurking and pulling the strings.
Inspired primarily by Breath of the Wild, Neverwinter Nights, and Final Fantasy VI, TERAGARD resembles a lost Super Nintendo RPG but features unique gameplay elements that make for a brand new kind of experience.
An Explorer's Dream
Highly-Refined JRPG Combat
Nearly-Endless Adventure

An Explorer's Dream
- Venture through a massive fantasy world that is facing overwhelming social unrest, with dozens of quests to complete that will develop your connection to the people of this nation and their struggles
- Fight your way through many challenging dungeons, all of which are full of puzzles, locked doors, and unique bosses
- Every single character you meet has a name, personality, unique appearance, along with a daily routine, home, and family
- The player decides when the game ends, but dedicated players can expect to spend dozens of hours completing every task in the game
Highly-Refined JRPG Combat
- Select a party of 4 diverse characters from 8 available options, each with their own unique abilities
- Collect Soul Stones, which dramatically alter the spells your characters can use
- Enemies flawlessly scale in difficulty as you level up, eliminating the need for grinding, and allowing you to go anywhere in the game's world right from the start
- The random-encounter rate can be adjusted at any time, and even turned off completely
- Combat has optional auto-battle and fast-forwarding
- For those who want more (or less) of a challenge, the difficulty of combat can be adjusted at any time from the Settings menu
Nearly-Endless Adventure
- If desired, play the entire game as a rogue-lite with features such as a random starting location, random party members, random character names, and randomized loot

✦ AI summary
Players praise this RPG for its engaging blend of JRPG and CRPG mechanics, compelling world-building, lengthy campaign with plenty of quests and exploration, and clever systems like the unique equipment upgrade mechanics alongside accessibility options. However, some players find the game's political messaging heavy-handed and preachy, with repetitive NPC dialogue that feels like developer commentary rather than organic storytelling, and the reward system can feel unrewarding despite the merit in the gameplay design.
A malevolent and narcissistic idiot takes over the country with collusion from foreign puppet-masters. He encourages monsters to thrive and brings misery to most of the good people. A Resistance movement forms, but the ravages this tyrant brings upon the country are so numerous that the Resistance just can't keep up. The world needs YOU to step up and save it. Fun game! I absolutely recommend it!6 found this helpful
This game is nice mixture of a JRPG and a CRPG. The combat system is much like the SNES-era Final Fantasy games, but the open world, character customization, and crafting feel like like a CRPG. Some of the systems in this game (like the equipment upgrading system) are very clever and original. I also appreciate all the accessibility options. You can raise and lower the encounter rate and difficulty level of the game at any point. Ultimately, this is a fun and well-made RPG.3 found this helpful
I came back and started this game again after having it a long time and I don't know why I didn't finish it in the first place. It's a great, long game with many quests and puzzles and a big world to explore. I will most likely play this again in a few months because I tend to do that with games I have played and liked very much. Thumbs up from me.
I've never played a game that so blatantly mirrored real life. It's not even clever. This is a game where one developer whines about the world around him, constantly. I get creating something to express yourself and the problems in the world around you, but when it's done in such a blunt forced way, it just comes off as preachy and whiney. Every NPC just reads like the same person telling you what they think about things. Also, the crafting/upgrade system can be commended for it's unique take on progressing in power, it ultimately feels unrewarding when you complete a quest or challenge without reward. Almost like it doesn't praise merit-based payment. Which is no surprise after spending 3ish hours talking to the game "NPCs". Sorry buddy, should have stuck to comedy.
Tons of custom assets and world building here. The game world itself feels huge, like playing an Elder Scrolls game in the RPGMaker engine. Interesting.
recommend nice game old school rpg.
