About The Aquarians

The year is 1882, and it’s nearing a peaceful summer in the small American town of Thornsworth, New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, the prestigious yet mysterious organization Loci Quaerere has gathered evidence of a long-forgotten temple from a bygone society, the Aquarians. This temple has been determined to be somewhere in the woods surrounding the very same town. In a headline announcement, the organization has sought after a knowledgeable and capable local to perform the tasks of discovery and exploration. That local has turned out to be you.

In this playable short, point and click your way through various rooms, puzzles, and your assigned taskbook, to uncover the mysteries of the temple, collect artifacts for sponsors, and fulfill your ultimate purpose.

The Aquarians is a short, linear point & click puzzle/adventure game, with a very distinctive visual style (monochrome "pencil drawing"). The player is an treasure hunter, looking for specific items; solving a puzzle or finding a treasure unlocks the route to the next temple area. The left mouse button controls interaction and movement, while the right mouse button shifts the viewing point to the current location of the mouse pointer (but not by dragging - even after an hour's play I wasn't really used to this). Movement is only to set locations - white disks which can be left-clicked on. I felt that the puzzles, and also finding objects, were made a bit more difficult by the graphical style which renders them with less sharpness and poorer contrast; I also found the graphics physically tiring by the end of my play-through. Nonetheless I shall be interested to see if this game develops further, as it is atmospheric with a good supporting story & lore.
