About Condemned: Criminal Origins

✦ AI summary

Play as FBI Agent Ethan Thomas investigating a wave of serial killings while framed for murder yourself, using forensic analysis and crime scene investigation to uncover a sinister connection between the crimes. Survive dangerous encounters with whatever weapons you can find—from firearms to improvised tools—as you race to exonerate yourself and stop a mysterious force corrupting society's most vulnerable into killers.

What twists the mind of an ordinary human into a serial killer?

Assigned to the Serial Crimes Unit, Agent Ethan Thomas must answer this question, and bring the worst of society to justice. His solve rate is the best in the bureau....perhaps too good.

While investigating the growing list of serial killers, Agent Thomas concludes that something is twisting the bodies and souls of those that society has left behind. The homeless, addicted and deranged are rising from the city’s underbelly and committing mindless acts of violence. Could there be an unseen connection between the increasing brutality of the latest serial killings and the increasing crime rate? This question is pushed to the forefront after Agent Thomas is framed for the murder of two police officers. Now he must solve the murders to stop the killings, and exonerate himself from the crimes of which he is accused.

As FBI agent Ethan Thomas, you rely on sharp instincts and sophisticated forensic tools to investigate crime scenes, collect evidence, and find clues that will lead you to the killers. With danger lurking in every shadow, you need whatever weapons you can find to stay alive. If you run out of bullets, you’ll have to fight with a fire axe, shovel, pipe, two-by-four, or whatever you can pry from the environment around you. You’ll need to make sure nothing stops you as you try to uncover exactly who...or what is behind the grisly killings plaguing the city.

i bought this game three or four years ago hoping it would feel like fear since they share the same engine and textures and while the atmosphere is great i hated dealing with all the bug fixes and the fact that high fps turns you into a one legged old man with cramped legs hobbling up stairs at grandma speeds in formula 1. the game crashed constantly for about thirty minutes during the last level so i rage quit and watched the ending on youtube instead. it is a dated horror title where the gunplay/general combat eventually falls flat with no real combo meta beyond stun and bash or use a shotgun but even then you cant save ammo. the gritty visuals and first person perspective do help create the games compelling story but the technical issues and the fact you cant buy it on steam anymore really limit its accessibility for new players. buy it somewhere else or if you are lucky enough to get a console copy you might just have fun since it is monolith so it can not really be bad but this game wasn't made for modern pcs.

I enjoyed playing this for the first time. I love the concept of playing cop while surviving with limited resources, you have to be quick and alert once you have learned the enemy's attack patterns. Guns have limited ammos so count every shot or you're toast. The atmosphere is outstanding, and it has huge inspirations from Silent Hill series. Sprinting isn't really that fast, I had to tweak the code just to make it more bearable. Overall it's a 7.5/10. A real shame that it's been delisted on steam, and I'm glad that I was able to buy it before it's gone.

A horror classic that still holds up! I finally got around to playing "Condemned: Criminal Origins", and I'm honestly impressed by how well it has aged. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible. Instead of relying on constant jump scares, the game builds tension through its dark environments, unsettling sound design, and the feeling that danger could be hiding around every corner. Exploring abandoned buildings, subway stations, and derelict apartments never stopped being creepy. The melee combat is surprisingly satisfying. Every fight feels desperate and brutal, forcing you to improvise with pipes, axes, sledgehammers, or whatever you can find nearby. It's simple, but it has real weight behind it, making every encounter memorable. I also enjoyed the crime scene investigation mechanics. They break up the action nicely and make you feel like an actual detective instead of just another action hero. The graphics obviously show their age, but the art direction and lighting still do a fantastic job of creating an oppressive atmosphere. If anything, the gritty presentation adds to the game's charm. If you're a fan of psychological horror, survival horror, or just want to …
