The Faraway Land

The Faraway Land is a colorful open-world survival adventure that takes a noticeably friendlier approach to a genre often dominated by bleak environments and constant desperation. Developed and published by FireTail, it combines exploration, crafting, gathering, farming, construction, quests, combat, trading, character progression, and cooperative multiplayer within a whimsical fantasy setting. The result is an approachable survival sandbox that still contains enough danger and resource management to prevent its attractive world from becoming completely carefree. The adventure places you in the role of a creation of Theofin, sent into the world with the broader responsibility of restoring order. The narrative provides motivation without forcing players through a tightly controlled sequence of events. Much of the experience is instead driven by curiosity. Islands, settlements, wilderness regions, inhabitants, monsters, resources, and magical elements encourage players to leave the safety of familiar territory and discover what exists farther away. Worked fine but then they launched a patch back sometime in 2022 and it hasn't worked since. I get the popup banner, followed by a black screen, and that's it. I've let it sit for up to 3 hours, just to see if it would progress. Nope. Can't minimize it. Can't ALT+F4 to close it. Have to force it closed through the task manager. Tried verifying the files. Tried reinstalling on two different types of drives (SATA & SSD). Tried adjusting my graphic hardware settings. Nope, doesn't work. Looking into the dicussion boards, it's clear I'm not the only one having this problem either.

This game is fun but it has major issue with game progression. You get stuck it spots with no explanation. One main example is finding a Shawarma for Diana's Dad. It is nowhere to be found in town. No hints no recipes, nothing. How do you make dough? your guess is as good as mine. What do you do with the wheat? I don't know there is no quest for flour. You get advanced quest items that you can't find answers for and there is no information online. If I can't progress I get frustrated and that is what is happening now. For 3 bucks I am ok with the frustration, if I had paid more I would be pissed! I yes yes for 3 bucks but no for any more than that. Get some guides or documentations please.

Having fun, feels like a hidden gem. Give it a shot!

Love the game, graphics and the whole concept but there are quite a few issues here and there but over all manageable. The whole voxel 3d environment is done pretty well. The english translations are a slight bit off and may be confusing. Still waiting on some improvements which might still be coming slowly. Overall good game.
