About THE INDIE DEV

THE INDIE DEV is a mockumentary-style genre swapper that cycles between third-person speed-platforming collectathon, third-person hack-n-slash action title, and third-person exploration/adventure game. Expect platforming, collectibles, enemies to be slashed and defeated, vast maps to be explored, and the occasional linear hallway for narrative purposes. With these ingredients, a lone developer—who started learning Unreal Engine four weeks ago—will (try to) deliver you a game fit to win the coveted "best indie game" award. Which institution is giving that award? Who knows. Definitely not one that forced the developer to rename this game two years after launch by weaponizing the suits. :)
Key features:
- Three distinct game genres and experiences (Platform! Fight! Walk!)
- A smorgasbord of jokes—written jokes, narrated jokes, visual jokes, and even a few good jokes
- A gripping narrative, depending on your familiarity with game development and Norm Macdonald
- Cinematic presentation and minimal HUD elements offer a premium aesthetic to distract from game mechanic simplicity
- Can be beaten in under two hours, for those of you who don't like games that overstay their welcome

Gameplay:
- Again, there's platforming, fighting (with weapons), and walking (with feet). There are only so many ways to rephrase this information. Press buttons, do things.

Falls short on both gameplay and, more annoyingly, the critique of the gaming industry it attempts to mock. The game contains three stages. Each stage has a different character, but the controls are rather normal for a third-person action game. There are two buttons for light and heavy attacks, as well as the ability to jump and rush away from an enemy or their attacks. There are two options available: story mode and stage select. To be honest, stages select is the only reason this has any value, as the story mode is neither fun nor funny. The first stage focuses on platformers. You spawn in a large, generic, and empty world. Except for the tower in the middle of a lake, the entire landscape is covered in trees and grass. Although it looks good, optimization is poor. You will come across invisible barriers, water that behaves as a flat surface on which you can walk or fall through, trees floating in mid-air, clipping issues, and so on. It appears to have no goal or purpose; you simply control a rodent on a chicken and explore the world. All you can find are 30 jokes, which are not funny. There are no waypoints or visual indicators indicating their location, so discovering th…

This may not be made for everyone. Plenty of sharp sarcastic remarks. If you're too hyper-sensitive, softie plushy soul and don't want to die by bazillions cuts, then stay the fluff away. You must have a great sense of fluffing humor to play this. And enjoy it as it is, in the most chillaxin' way. Because like it or not, truth will always hurts, no matter what. As well as enough patience to endure from start to finish. I laughed to most of the jokes, insults, witty sarcasms and mockeries (there are some facts too, behind some). It's healthy to sometimes laugh on things ....and your own self. b(^_^)d

Short and scatological, fourth-wall breaking jank romp that does some things I've never seen in a game before. Hearing the voice of the developer is novel! Definitely a unique experience. Probably funnier if you are more of a "gamer"- there was some commentary/jokes on what I think are streamers or youtubers but I got laid in high school* so I don't know who they are. *If you are offended by this, this game is not for you.

The game has some performance issues, and the game itself is kind of goofy in a good way but slightly boring as it is a walking sim. Though it makes its comeback in the comedy department as it provides u with a-lot of good jokes to find around the map.

Tried to get into it - the dev seemed to be going for a Stanley Parable type of vibe but I don't think it quite got there. Most of my time was on the first level, and the core gameplay wasn't compelling at all. Before someone says 'THATS THE POINT' - okay, but you need to be providing some other value to offset being intentionally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the gameplay. Even a simple arrow that pops up to point the user to the nearest item to pick up (maybe that pops up with an audio clip that plays the first time that you take longer than X seconds/minutes to collect an item would have pushed things forward considerably. There were also moments that having a voiceover to poke fun or reference something the player was doing could have made it a much more enjoyable time. When I no-clipped through a castle - perfect time to play something addressing it, offering an excuse as to why it wasn't finished, why you shouldn't have tried to do that, etc. Same with walking on top of the water in the one section, looking under the map, when you try to do something with a common button press that doesn't exist, etc. I tried to hit M at one point to see 'hey is there a map with markers for these ite…
