"the legend of tomoko" is a shoddy and pointless Unreal asset flip, a bunch of "borrowed" assets dropped on a third person brawler game template with very little other effort gone into it. As with all asset flips, even if this one isn't a paid product (so I guess slightly more ethical), it still has no value as a real game for gamers. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your g…

The Legend of Tomoko is a bad game on its own. The fact that it’s free already hints that it won’t impress in terms of quality. But it’s not just bad – its badness is actually laughable. And I don’t mean that in a negative way. The game amused me quite a bit with its bizarre execution. You play as Tomoko, a neko girl, who fights NPCs that barely do anything. You can complete the whole game by sending fireballs at the enemies, which usually take them out in one hit. The only exception is the boss, who you need to hit about three times. The jumping animation looks like the character is sitting down – and on the first jump, it even looks like she’s sitting on a toilet. The entire game can be finished in just a few minutes, making it extremely easy. If you’re looking for a high-quality gaming experience, you’d better look elsewhere. But if you want a short, bizarre, and unintentionally funny experience, The Legend of Tomoko delivers.

I’m a simple man. When I hear the vine boom sound effect, I give a thumbs up. This game does otherwise suck though.
