The Mushroom Journal

I very much appreciate the Disclaimer at the start of the game; IRL mushrooms are not to be trifled with. This is a very cute, peaceful game. It was fun learning about the mushrooms around my character's house.

The Mushroom Journal is a really small game, but I like how much personality it manages to have. I move to a little place called Mush Meadows after getting tired of city life and buy an old cabin that used to belong to someone who was obsessed with mushrooms. From there I start exploring the woods, finding mushrooms and trying to figure out what happened to the person who lived there before me. It is a very calm game and the whole thing has a cosy feeling that makes it easy for me to settle into. The mushroom collecting is easily the best part for me. When I find one, I have to look at things like the cap, gills and stem and use my journal to work out exactly what it is. I cannot just pick everything I see either, because the game wants me to be completely sure before I collect it. I actually like that because it makes the mushrooms feel like something I am learning rather than just another resource to grab. It is simple, but there is something satisfying about recognising one correctly and adding it to my journal. Absolutely wonderful!! A fun cosy and calming game with super cute visuals! I would absolutely love to see more!!!

The design is nice; the game has good base mechanics which have potential. Could add farming mechanics and a way to customise living spaces/characters. Could even have options to poison and kill npcs or something. Who knows. The problem right now is that there is no goal. You get the tutorial done and then after that the whole game is repetition with no purpose.
