The Painter's Playground is a mashup of utility paint program with RPG-leveling up and clicker-inspired gameplay. While there is no fail state, there are certainly measures of success such as creating a painting that commands a high price in the online community, or owning a gallery of coveted works. Whether you are just someone who wants to doodle with a mouse or already have years of experience creating masterpieces with a drawing tablet - there is fun to be had creating and collecting in the zen coastal town of Painter's Port.

Come visit Painter's Port. Stay awhile. You'll be glad you did.

  • With slow-burning clicker-inspired progress, you will be peeling away layers for dozens of hours.
  • Create works of digital 2D art using a multitude of tools, paints, and canvases. Gain recognition for your efforts through the online community through ‘thumbs up’ artwork appreciation votes and/or selling your work.
  • Manage your own gallery to ensure you have the most coveted collection of curated works; buy, sell, and vote on community-created works of art.
  • Earn Renown (XP) through painting idle clicker-style, and Bits (money) from gallery sales. Spend these currencies on permanent upgrades, a variety of canvases, new painting tools, paint colors, votes on your favorite paintings in The Community Harbor, and much more.
  • Invest Renown into progressing through 50 levels as a career artist. The unlock system caters to creative gamers that enjoy a slow-burning ‘lifestyle’ game.
  • Vie for the top spot in a multitude of categories on the leaderboards.
  • Enjoy the beautiful IRL hand-crafted oil painted world by renowned artist Russell Murray.
  • Explore Oyster Mode to paint with absolutely no limitations.
  • Supports Wacom drawing tablets out of the box. (*NOT* Required)

It's not quite Photoshop but a novel, relaxing "game" with redux painting tools, where you progressively unlock colors, tools and canvases, exhibit and buy and sell artwork in the community market, including other players' works of art. Two works that I'm personally proud of include my Gordon Freeman and Dr. Evil portraits. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1222674616 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1221956021 Also, that's my awe-inspiring "Mind your own Bee's nest" masterpiece that can be seen in the game trailer.

Based on the other reviews it looks like they gave away a lot of free keys, doesn't it? Note to self: Next time this dev sells something, see if they're giving it away on another site somewhere before buying it. On topic, this is a nice little piece of software. Perfect for my needs. I'm a beginner to digital art, want to become a better digital artist and this gives me a little bit of incentive to practice. The more you paint, the better tools can buy and the higher level you get. The higher level you get, the more tools you have access to. IMO "the art collection" thing isn't well implemented. It would probably be better as part of a minigame, semi-separate from this, where you're investing or something and you've got an AI that trends for certain types of paintings. Otherwise I have no incentive to buy anyone else's stuff. In any event, the community is too small for all that to matter. Don't buy this for any social/community aspect since that seems to be non-existent. If you're like me, not good enough to create digital art that anyone would want, and just want some incentive to practice then this game is perfect and worth full price. I don't see any other reason to buy it…

This review has been a long time coming. This software is absolutely amazing, and anyone with any skill level can use it. It harkens back to the old days of Microsoft Paint, right down to the charming spray paint tool. Anyone who remembers using paint back in the '90s will be perfectly at home here, and although the community isn't as active as it once was, it is still quite a good one with dedicated members. Pixel art is one of my favorite styles and this program makes it accessible even on the worst hardware ( I have an old HP with an AMD A4, 4GB RAM, and a stock integrated gpu, as well as a top of the line ASUS, and Surface Go, and it works great on all of them). Well worth the price of admission!

give it a try! I very much enjoy coming back to view other people's haphazard artwork. The community is like five people, but it's there.
